You're completely right - just great story telling and acting. A movie like that would never get made today. rns90

Can’t tell which role is better this one or Verbal Kint in Usual Suspects . Both released in the same year. Alzarius, and Starkiller

The mark of a great movie is that you know what certain parts are coming and it still sucks you and has you by the edge of your seat . underrated (maybe) part : there is no name for where this all happens so something like the events that of this film could happen anywhere in the USA. This is probably my fav Fincher film. The Game , something is missing in that one . Maybe it’s too cold or the ending doesn’t really work once you know it. But it’s not as great as this one. Zodiac is too long. I did like the Girl with the Dragon Tatoo way more than I expected to. CreepingDeath, OILERMAN, and NashvilleNinja

I also read the novels . Whichever Mara girl it was in the Fincher interpretation was closer to the character in the novel . The Swedish film was just kind of by the numbers as well. When I watched it, I was like “eh”. I expected something a bit better. Generally, I prefer the original (foreign) but the Fincher version was better. A shame they never bothered with the filming the other novels after that film.
MadMax
Small world situation... I just watched Se7en again the other day. Such a gorgeously dark movie. One of my faves. rns90

A modern neo noir masterpiece. And I’m glad none of these assholes felt the need to “reimagine” this. MadMax

This project, titled Eight, would have had Detective Somerset developing psychic abilities, but the original writer and cast refused to participate. Retooled and Released: The script was later retooled back to its original concept of a psychic doctor helping the FBI, and it was released in 2015 as the standalone film Solace, starring Anthony Hopkins. I hadn't ever noticed this piece of it until around 45 minutes into my last watch of it and then I was looking constantly for clues. Not a goddamned detail anywhere that gives it away. Amazing attention to detail without making it obvious - i.e. Gotham. It feels like NY, but could easily be Boston, Chicago, Seattle, etc. rns90
