The fact the Titans don't have to throw him to the wolves is a good thing, not a bad one.

I don't necessarily disagree. If they honestly believe Tannehill can lead the team to a point where he gets extended then I actually fully agree with the sentiment. Make him earn the role. If they don't believe that to be the case then we are wasting time not getting the rookie live reps and evaluating him for 24.

Assuming they keep Tannehill and Levis is the backup, what do you do with Willis?  Just cut him?  After a year?  Seems crazy but it also seems crazy to carry 3 when Willis showed basically nothing last year.

IMO they told Tannehill from the get go that he was the guy for 2023 regardless of what happened in the draft.  I also think they told him any extension talk was dependent on how the draft went.

Levis to me is the desired 2024 plan and I believe that's why they tried by all accounts to move back up into late 1 to secure the 5th year option ability.

I think we are all fairly close on our understanding of the situation. We may disagree on preferred outcomes based on what we believe the FO thinks of the situation, but I think all of us are pretty close in our expectations.

To me, Tannehill would not be at the facility the majority of the offseason and would have demanded a trade or release in February if their plan was to go rookie QB in 2023.

I honestly believe the Levis pick was simply how the board fell/BPA that fell into a long term need.

Man. I’m sure most of y’all already know this but Buck Reising is a complete moron. I listened to his show yesterday and he was talking about how drafting Levis is starting the clock on Ran and Vrabel’s hot seat and how much worse it is than taking Malik Willis last year. His argument centers around us giving up future draft capital and trading up for Levis, which we also did for Willis. But he dismisses the Willis pick because it was a third rounder. He also defended Willis incessantly after his awful game against the Chiefs last year.

Taking Levis is a big deal but I don’t think this is necessarily going to decide how long Ran sticks around as GM. How many games we win the next few years will be the ultimate factor. Even if Levis becomes a Jacoby Brissett level QB (which I think is worst case scenario), it’s decent value in the second round.

Finally, if we were to totally implode this year, I think Ran is the GM either way heading into next season. And if we were to somehow land a top pick, the Levis pick is not standing in the way of us taking Caleb Williams or Penix.

Also buck exclaimed he knew what arthritis was when talking about Spears and then called it bone on bone lmao.

that would imply tannehill is ok with playing out his deal.  seems he would want the extension.

Probably does but at this point, his options would seem to be pretty limited.  He's going to have to bank on either earning a franchise tag or hitting free agency next March.

Now if they had not drafted Levis, I do think they'd be talking extension talks.

I think the only scenario where they could get a hot seat quick is if they would do what some are advocating - cut or trade Tannehill for a mid round pick and hand the keys to Levis only to see him play awful.  Then inevitably throw Willis back in there and he sucks.  Waste the last year of Henry.  Defense one year older.

It would highlight the misevaluation on the QB, which would concern any owner.

Trade Tanny for DeAndre Hopkins straight up and lets see what Levis has got.

Playing Tanny this season just kicks the can down the road. There will have to be a season where our fate lies on the arm of Levis. Might as well get the kid some help at receiver and utilize one of the years on his contract. We’re already gonna run the shit out of the football. Use Henry to break in the rookie.

I know Levis came from a pro style offense, but can he even read defenses yet?  From what I have seen, he does a lot of one WR reading so far, most of the time anyway.

Even Mahomie didn't know how to read a defense much until after he sat his first year.   Levis would really have to show me something in camp and PS before I'd throw him out there in game one of the RS. (assuming Tanny is still here then I mean)
