I was a big fan of Long. Underutilized early in his career he always showed he was better than the guys ahead of him when he got to play. He got in to the backfield quicker than any player I can remember playing at his spot.... pretty much ever.  He got better and better at pass D until he was just damn good. I think he was one of the better blitzers in the league too.

A Great player when healthy, you just cant miss so much time I guess?

For 11 million I'd sign him and draft his replacement.

Remember when Colin McCarthy used to be at the top of this stat?

Often guys who have stats like this guess and are responsible for massive run gains on the plays they guess wrong on

Eh not Long. Do you remember a ton of big runs up the middle when he was in there? I don't.

@Jamalisms looks like Long was more important than Henry or Tannehill!

Good dig ... except that I argue against wins as the measure. But it's still a decent dig.

... and his presence was certainly meaningful. He just wasn't healthy enough. I imagine some will conflate the two.

Pretty obvious from Vrabel's answers about him that he wasn't exactly a priority

When a coach singles you out as a guy who doesn't do the work to stay healthy ... your days are numbered.

Yeah I think any player with any sort of injury history is going to struggle to find a place on this team going forward.

LMAO!  That's starting to appear to be very true.

Ran is going to have a ton of money to spend on the Titans' next run.

Woe to whoever is back there looking for targets trying to play catch up.

Yeah it was more a general comment on why I don’t like the stat

Long was guilty on occasion but his much bigger problem was that he missed tackles at a clip higher than almost anyone at his position over his career

Yeah seems cheap. And I dont know anyone we are signing/drafting that would be better within the first year.

You got stats on that? He was known to get into the backfield too aggressively sometimes in college..

Really liked Long, dude was a huge part of our run D success and always played with great effort when he was out there.

I'll admit it's a little weird they seem to be choosing to blame the players for their injuries and not what they're doing in-house. There's been so many it's a little hard for me to believe it's on the players but Vrabel generally doesn't choose to admit fault until he's exhausted all other avenues. There better not be a flurry of them this year...

Well Vrabel did bring his own training coach in to replace a guy who had been here during 4 decades.. ..

Vrabel gets more out of his talent than most coaches.  Any Given Sunday any team can win because they are all professional football players.  These guys all have levels of play from regular season effort to postseason effort.  Vrabel is able to get more regular season effort out of his teams.

He had a lot of tackles for loss but he frequently over pursued and got caught behind the LOS. He was a good playmaker when he was healthy but you can't contribute on the injury report.

Long is a major difference-maker when he's on the field.  Had he been able to stay healthy, then he's probably signing a deal in the neighborhood of what Edmunds just got.

Personally, I think paying $6M/year for to get a legit difference-maker for 10-12 games is a pretty damned good deal.   Obviously Vrabel & Carthon felt otherwise.

Maybe, the Titans are planning to tank?  I don't want to be saying that word out loud because it is not popular, but obviously with six draft picks and very little money, it doesn't look as if they plan to improve on the players they are letting go.

Oh, I forgot.  Ran is an excellent judge of talent.  He's going to grab up all the talented UDFA as we roll through this working rebuild while still dominating the AFC South.
