The grass field looks terrible by the end of the season every year. It’s probably time that did something about it.

They didn't install under field heaters when the stadium was new and it sees a fair amount of use with TSU playing there as well. If they try and repair later in the season, it only works if the temps are warm enough for the new stuff to fully take root. Years when its gotten below freezing, like last year, it didn't fully take root so the field was a disaster by the end of the year. They have made a lot of advances with newer artificial turfs, it's the older stuff (split turf) that was making all the headlines last year for causing injuries.

I don’t know, have you seen how terrible the grass field looks every December?

True, it’s looked bad, but if they wanted to appease the football players first and foremost with real live grass turf seems like they could find a way.  The field is used for multiple other events throughout the year though, so I get it.

I think it’s a damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation. They can’t make grass work well so they just went looking for the best alternative. It’s not perfect, but neither was the grass. And it’s cheaper than totally redoing the ground under the turf to make grass grow better.

But seeing as they are moving to a dome in a few years anyway, grass was going to be going away regardless.

Grass here in the winter just doesn’t survive. It always turns brown. I don’t think all the money in the world would keep it green and alive. I’m not a grass expert so I can’t explain why it can’t stay alive in our climate bc it’s not like we have very harsh winters.
