From a cap management perspective, the critical mistake was trading for Jones on his full contract and then using Tannehill's deal to fund it on the cap in June.  By doing so, he eliminated the easy button method of creating cap space with the biggest contract on the team at the beginning of the new NFL year.

Yep, it was a bad move on multiple levels as many of us stated before the move was executed.

Not relevant to the point at hand.

Tannehill's cap number compared to his playoff performances to date is not tenable long term.

But paying a RB 15 M to get 3 YPC is?  The offensive game plans they have in playoff games is?

Regardless, Tannehill's cap number issue is a one year deal that's the fault of Robinson and Robinson alone.  Either he'll get a new contract with a much lower cap number for 2023 and onward or they'll have a new QB whether it be a vet or rookie - also with a much lower cap number.  Hell, he might get a new contract this summer......

I really like Belichick's approach to QBs.  Take them 2nd-3rd round, develop and play or/and trade.  Even when Brady left, he stayed cheap planning on taking a QB the next year.  Mac Jones wasn't bad to wind up with.  Trade back.  Get more picks in the first two/three rounds.  I think this is where the Titans should be.  They have a defense to plug and play 1st, 2nd and third round picks.

Time to decide on offense, if we could keep an OC.  Tannehill did what he did with weapons, Henry, AJB, Davis and Smith produced 4K passing yards.  You can't subtract two players like Smith and Davis without replacements.   Build from the draft.  Don't overdraft for need.  The plan is to run the ball, go get a Munchak to develop the OL.

If they do that, the Titans will be perennial contenders 9-8, 8-9 bad years and ready to run the table anytime with a top QB.  Rudolph, 3rd rd pick for Steelers filled in well because he was surrounded with so much talent.  Not to beat a dead horse, but going for an old, injured FHOF WR costs the Titans a SB, lots of money, salary cap problems and lost of a 2nd round pick. Plus they still need a #2 WR.

JRob and Titans fans need to settle in for the long haul.  Start taking QBs before round seven.  JRob is good, but he's not great yet.  You can't hit every ball out of the park.  I still trust him, just time to change his approach some.

What is even more interesting about those comments from Daniel Jeremiah is he was directly talking about the Titans and Tannehill when he made them.

I had a post a few weeks ago that said essentially the same thing.  If the Titans were to draft a young QB, it would be due to the financial side of it and not the idea that the prospect would be better than Tannehill.

I think the flaw in the logic here at least with this class is that they all have significant holes in their game where it's hard to see them being on the level that would be good enough.  Conversely, teams can pay QB's at market and structure the deals to free up cap space annually as needed.  It's common and easy to do and teams with elite QB's are continuously contenders.  The money ball guys hit only when the QB is an immediate stud like Wilson or Mahomes.

Yep. Tannehill (for whatever you think) is at a Top 12  qb.  With all the flaws in this qb class, it hard to gamble on these guys hitting that level or even surpassing that.

A QB in this system has to be almost flawless considering how many 3rd and longs he will be put in.  None of the draft-able options fit that bill.

That said, when Vrabel doesn't have RT to bail his meathead ass out of this offensive 'scheme,' we are going to have some long seasons.

But neither Mahomes or definitely Wilson were viewed as studs coming out. You could say they had ‘holes.’

I don’t see you working for any FOs. You’re a good poster when it comes to football knowledge, but you’re still just like all of us.

Guys like Ruston Webster and Blake Beddingfield worked in Front Offices.  If you don't think NFL teams have had idiots in key spots, LOL.

And Quiver Chins completely was butt fucked on the Julio deal giving up premium picks AND picking up the contract AND then having to restructure the largest contract in June thus putting it off limits for this offseason to get cap space.  When you look at the totality of the decisions, they were awful.  Idiotic.
