wiscotitansfan Posted December 26, 2018 Report Share Posted December 26, 2018 We would need to keep our team 7 pts under what Baltimore (vs. Browns) allows and only have 3 pts to spare to what Bears(@ Vikings) allow. Seeing as we play against the Colts (26.7 ppg, #7 offense in the NFL) and we need to do just as good or better than the lower ranked offenses of the Bears(23.3 ppg, #16) and Broncos (21.3 ppg, #22) I just don't see it happening. For sure, was moreso just trying to emphasize what needs to happen for us to end up with that. Playoffs is completely in our own hands and the scenario is simple as shit, win and in... We routinely allow opposing offenses to chew up 10 minutes of clock and eventually hold them to a field goal. The definition of bend but don't break. This is also a minor reason why our offense doesn't score that much. The offense doesn't get many possessions because our defense will allow the opposing offense to bleed out the clock. And when the defense does create turnovers, it's never on the opposing side of the field which makes the offense have to still drive 70+ yards for a TD. I think the Bears defense is easily better than ours. They're disciplined but also have a deadly pass rush which creates turnovers, defensive TDs, or easy offensive TDs. I hate to break it to ya but that's very much so a winning strategy. In today's NFL you expect teams to damn near be able to score at will and many of those times it's a TD. Any defense that can cause another's team's offense to be outscored by our pitiful offense is doing their job and then some. Keeping teams to FGs instead of only 0 pts all game is something teams need to strive for in today's NFL. You're insane if you think those are hollow stats. We are middle of the pack in plays allowed, Time of Posession so not sure why you think that us being a bend but don't break defense is some detriment and we only turn it on in the red-zone. You beat me to it but I was in the middle of writing this up.... I never said anything that disagree'd with the Bears having a more opportunistic defense.... You give our offense that many drives though and it will have sputtered out that many more times and just given the other team that many more drives and drove their score up. We have had a lot of close games that we're decided by less than a TD. If you were to compare offenses I would bet that most offenses in the league have been better than ours in terms of points per drive and just giving each team more drives would not work out in our favor if you were to extrapolate the stats out. wiscotitansfan Posted December 26, 2018 Author Report Share Posted December 26, 2018 @ap24786 So I looked it up, if you extrapolate the stats to more drives for each team and the efficiency stays exactly the same it would have resulted in what I can tell to be the same record because games like the Eagles and first Texans one would have netted the better offense more points and never let the Titans get the W while we likely would have beaten the Bills and possibly Dolphins with more drives. Obviously the Bears defense is exponentially more exciting than anything we have seen all season, but some of the best offenses in the NFL have close to the same amount of drives that our offense does.
