It's not that I get after Mariota so much as I get attacked, called ridiculous names and thrashed for saying anything about him.  A lot of the things I have said, plenty other people are saying one week and waffling away the next.  I never said anything about bad play by Mariota last year, the entire season.  It doesn't mean I didn't see any.

This is key

The Titans since the Ravens game basically give up after they fall way behind. Because of their OL and Mariota struggles dropping back they cannot execute a passing game

This is horse shit and loser talk, its ok to hate losing but direct it where it needs to go. You have people who realy follow you in here and you continue with simple nonsense.

They simply are not capable of pass protecting when they fall behind. Vrabel said Mariota was taken out of the Colts game for his safety and the play calling in the 2nd half of the Texans game was not a team trying to mount a comeback, they were trying to play it safe.

It's a huge problem; can't run an NFL offense scared. If Mariota cant protect himself and Lafleur cant scheme a quick passing game to offset the OL the Titans might as well start over on offense.

Why are the last two staffs unwilling to spread the field and run a quick passing offense? I really do not know. At the risk of upsetting the homers it's got to be Mariota related.

The Texans OL is worse and they have managed to use max protections and a quicker passing game

The Colts game...sure.  Vrabel is just covering his ass on how bad he managed that 4th quarter.  He SENT Mariota back into the game throwing passes with less than two mins to go against a line that was achieving pressure with three man rushes.  It’s okay to admit that Vrabel was in over his head.

The hell of it is, a quick passing offense was exactly what we saw in the first couple preseason games.....and Marcus executed it extremely well, and was very sharp and accurate.   A lot of it was relatively easy throws.....but IIRC, he had a 130+ passer rating after the first two preseason games.

Then in PSG#3, they showed a completely different approach that was primarily play-action and straight dropback passing....Marcus was terrible and his protection was nonexistent.

They also relied heavily on short, quick passes after Marcus came in to replace Gabbert in week 3......and he was absolutely flawless.    He made quick, decisive reads and got the ball out quickly with deadly accuracy.    Three of his four incompletions on the day were dropped passes, including some of his best throws of the day.

He did struggle against the Bills...but against a defensive gameplan that was designed to shut down short passes and contain the running game, the Titans made no attempt whatsoever to stretch the field and loosen things up.  And of course, they compounded the issue with multiple turnovers and Nick Williams' huge drop.     (This game was also the first time LaFleur showed himself as either unwilling or incapable of making effective in-game adjustments.)

They had some good success with the short, quick passes earlier in the season.....and as you alluded to, it is perhaps the single most effective workaround for a bad O-line.    But for whatever reason, LaFleur simply doesn't want to use them.

Something that hasn't been talked about enough is what defenses have done to adjust to the thing Marcus has done well.

For example, the last two years Marcus has excelled passing from play action. Kuharsky reported the other day this season Marcus is one of the worst rated passers from playaction. One thing that has stood out to me and I first noticed it in PSG#3 was teams straight up rushing the passer when the Titans try and run playaction. The Steelers destroyed the Titans doing this. Add in the fact the terrible rushing attack and pass pro and it's pretty easy for defenses.

The Titans have to build a dominant running game to lean on and to dictate to defenses how they can play the Titans. That won't be done this season so the staff will be hamstrung to try and get by. The need a foundation RB to replace Henry for and obvious improve the blocking.

The Rams, Saints and KC have great running games defenses have to respect.

Even teams like the Seahawks, Dallas and the Texans who have came on are great running teams.

I'm talking about your constant knocking of Marcus drop back passing which you conveniently slid in there as well.

21 of Mariota's 35 sacks came in the 3 blowouts.  Over a third of his sacks in the combined 2017 regular season/playoff games came in the blowouts against NE and Pittsburgh. He really struggles when we get behind by more than a score.  Teams basically have no fear of him moving the ball through the air, they don't even bother to play prevent and opt to focus on pressuring the QB.  This tells me a lot about how opposing teams view our QB, and why we may be experiencing so many issues in the run game.  If the QB can't move the ball when defenses are practically begging for him to, stopping the run game is basically all they have to worry about.

...it’s hard to be this wrong about something.

We have been spreading the field running a quick passing offense. Marcus was 23/24 for 302 yards and two TDs last game. He dominated the Patriots and Cowboys. It’s like you guys aren’t watching the same game.

A foundation running back you say? That’s what we need for future success with this QB you say? I happen to agree.

Hmmmmmm.

Now where can we find one of those I wonder.
