Offenses with a Worse Supporting Cast

You have to assume that any team which loses their top 2 receiving threats from the previous year is going to look bad.  There is no use of sugar coating it, Sharpe isn't a #2 and Taylor/Jonnu aren't ready to be a starter.

But you have to wonder how productive Mariota would be with a great supporting cast.  Alex Smith could barely throw for 4k yards with a good RB, top 3 TE, and one of the best weapons at WR in the league and a great offensive coach.  You see the difference with a guy who can actually throw the ball, even in his second year in the league

Taylor and Sharpe are not “decent” 2 and 3 WRs imo. Both shouldn’t be starting.

To me right now Davis is a #2 with potential to become a 1 taylor a #3 with potential to become a 2 if he stops dropping everything and sharpe a #4. I think if we had a reliable #2 it would take pressure off davis so that he could eventually become our 1.

Good QB's make the skill position players around them better.  There's a reason why teams like NE, NO, and GB can interchange players at WR, TE, and RB and still be really good.

This shit show is not all on Mariota but a big part of it is.  It largely stems from his sporadic accuracy and meltdowns when pressured.  He flashes ability here and there but not nearly enough to be considered a good QB at this point.  Any justifiable metric - points scored, TD/INT ratio, YPA, 3rd down conversion rate, QB Rating - shows he's mediocre at best and really bottom tier in his last 25 games.

The real question is whether he's fixable.  I've never seen a QB become substantially more accurate and that my friends is the #1 thing a QB has to do especially in today's NFL.  Then there's the mindset of the player.  If he were to have a game like Rosen did last night, Mariota would fall apart and I believe the coaches know this.  In reality, we saw that happen last year in Pittsburgh and he's really been ultra gun shy ever since.

Let’s be real here, the issue with the skill people is the QB. The offense has enough talent that a good passing QB would be able to have an effective passing game.

Let's be real here....you suck!

Just what we need, another Mariota is terrible thread.

I know, or at least I think that wasn't your intention but that's what it's going to turn into.

No it absolutely was aimed at Mariota. Not necessarily an all-out assault on him but everyone here harps that Mariota can't be judged fairly because our offensive talent around him... That's bullshit, the list that I put up are teams I feel have worse talent around their QB. It's obviously opinion based but there is no way that we shouldn't have at least some production from our offense.

I'm not even talking about against Baltimore though, just in general.

Ravens

Jaguars

Packers - Better at TE, Adams is good but Rodgers makes him great, the rest of the receivers are just in the right spots (sometimes), I think Henry/Lewis more than make up for the difference in wide receiver talent across the board

Bears

Browns

Who on those teams are more talented than what should be a talented Lewan, Conklin, CD, Dion Lewis and Henry? The interior of our line is trash but not as bad as this site says and Taywan and Sharpe are likely less than their #2/3 (but certainly not more athletic or better on paper IMO).

I’ve watched the Browns. I think they have a young TE and of course Landry.

I think the big thing for all players is opportunity. If a receiver only gets one or two chances a game, it puts too much pressure on the player. Just like they say, give your QB an easy completion to start. It relaxes him. How about they open with a script of easy passes to Walker and Sharpe when he comes in. Put a lot of effort into making Henry’s first run get two-three yards past the los.

Start with success.

I agree but that theory has more than enough mouths to feed to be plausible, an entire drive would be devoted to just giving guys their "easy" momentum builder

At that point you may as well just make that the entire gameplan

Just off the top of my head on which teams have a worse offensive supporting cast for the QB than the Titans. Elaborate if some teams should be added or omitted

Browns

Bears

Packers

Jets

Bills

Ravens

Jaguars

Colts

Panthers

49ers

Seahawks

Obviously this will be based on opinion, but IMO I feel that if the QB of those teams were put on the Titans and all other things were equal they would have better numbers than they currently do for their respective team

You're legitimately crazy on a few of these. Others are debatable if you're (as I assume) seeing aside QB.

I disagree with many, but that's beside the point because it's opinion.

It's an impossible hypothetical simply because how much the QB matters for the production of those positions, it's such a team sport that it's impossible to accurately put anything in such a vacuum.

It was obviously aimed at Mariota but I was also legitly curious about people's perceptions of the talent of other teams (in a vacuum) since everyone constantly just harps how talentless Mariota's support is here

We've seen the drop off on offense for teams like Indy and GB when their star QB's were out injured.  Seattle would have the same issue if Wilson were out.

The scary thing is that the offense looked eerily horrid with Gabbert as it does with Mariota with the exception of the Philly game and even then MM left a number of plays on the field with missed throws.

I think too many people are putting too much stock in what is basically a rookie receiving corps.

The most experienced pass-catcher on this team is Luke Stocker, followed by Lewis.

Both 2nd year guys that were here all of last year didn't play a whole lot of snaps last year.

They are all essentially rookies when you consider the fact they are all learning a new system.

I think you know where I am going. Why not succeed in the first run?  We had years of Fisher- offensively challenged-starting game after game with a score. It’s not some way out idea. Any team should be able to run a script.
