Blake Beddingfield - Mariota over Winston was an easy choice

I think that it is silly to say that Davis has a ceiling of a #2 WR.  We saw games where he definitely showed ability beyond that of an average player .  A rookie with the ceiling of a WR2 would not stand out at all.  They would look like Tajae Sharpe out there.

Chow actually pulled a rabbit out of a hat by designing an offense for a raw ass idiot VY on the fly that actually worked for the most part; he was crippled his first year with a gimpy McNair on a bad team that he was ordered to protect at all costs.

Lost all credibility with this one.

Chow had some good accomplishments in his career just not as a head coach. By the time he was coaching in Hawaii he was totally washed up and never had any experience head coaching anyway.

Sure he did- with Phillip Rivers at NC State and at USC under Pete Carroll.  He's been pretty terrible when he hasn't had top shelf talent.

I think you have to take some things that Beddingfield says with a grain of salt because ultimately he was fired by Robinson.

He alluded to Robinson always going for need when he drafts. In his defense, he didn't sound salty when discussing Robinson and actually spoke highly of this year's draft class.

He said he was glad to not have to travel 180 days a year. He has young kids.

Do you think it's odd that he'd be this open about all of these things?  I take it he has no plans to work in a front office again because who would hire him if he's going to share these types of stories after he gets fired?

Silly. He’s still a relatively young guy. He’s trying to convince himself that he’s better off with the severance.

Well, duh!  Every team drafts for need.  NE loses their LT and RB, and what do they draft in the 1st round?  Does he want to criticize Belichick while he's at it?

He's definitely salty.  Boasting about his own accomplishments and portraying a very "meh"  impression of the guys we have drafted since he was fired. It's understandable, but as someone said, his opinions must be taken with a grain of salt.  Jeff Fisher also dismissed anything that the new LA regime has accomplished, and gave himself a pat on the back for putting them in a good position.

Plenty of teams draft guys who don’t fit their most pressing need. Need is always a consideration, but plenty of teams will take the guy they think is the best player rather than reaching down the draft board to plug a hole in the roster.

JRob has drafted for need.

If a guy takes an unprecedented fall, then sure.  But taking a guy 5-10 picks earlier than he was mocked is hardly a reach, and is completely justified if there is a need.

If Q. Nelson had fallen to our draft position, and we had taken a lesser prospect in a position of need, then that would be a valid argument.  But that hasn't really happened.  Except for when we saw Landry take a free fall and jumped on him.

Agree that Webster would have taken Winston at 2 if Mariota went 1.  Mostly because other teams were not trying to trade up for Winston like they were for Mariota.   Only team I heard as a possibility to move to 1 was Philly and you can assume that was so Chip could get Mariota

When was the last time you hear call after call for the guy that everyone knows is going #1 overall? You think the Colts were listening to calls for Luck?

Winston being a consensus #1 was stupid then, and looks even worse now.  He's a bit like Eli.  He has the star power and will occasionally show glimpses of greatness, but he's not elevating any franchise, at least not every year.

Luck was a player who could carry a team.  I could hypothetically see Winston being more successful in terms of SBs because his GM will frantically keep adding pieces to try to improve a persistently average team, and it will all come together at the right time.  Whereas Luck will give a very false sense of security, like Rodgers has done for the past decade, and the mediocrity of his team and coaching staff will rear its head in the playoffs.
