The real question is how many multi-millionaires who have sold multiple businesses and retired at 40 spend their free time going on to a sports forum so they can argue about simple math problems and call people "fuck faces"?

Once you do the addition within the parentheses it is removed leaving division on the left and multiplication on the right. At that point you just solve from left to right as they are on the same leve

Holy crap. Who leaves parentheses in place after solving part of an equation? I fear for education in this country. This is a simple math problem everyone beyond 3rd grade should know how to do.

That's the thing with this equation. I think it was written vaguely on purpose to stir up debate. I've seen debate about these equations in other places as heated as a debate about politics or religio

Math, like women, booze, cars, drugs, etc., etc., etc., are all very easy in LaLa Land. It’s when you look in the mirror that the real Friday night punches you right in the ole tard bean sack.

Hey FistShaker, what do you see when you look in the mirror? Do you see Will Hunting or do you see some white trash message board obsessed idiot wearing a cheap WalMart tee shirt with a wolf on it? You going to be poking Minnie Driver tonight?

The answer is 9. I originally thought 1 as well bc I assumed a parenthesis but that's not right.

That being said, there's a reason engineers would use / and more parentheses to be clear.

bullshit. I have an engineering degree and use it every day. the core issue is the misapplication of math principles end of story. It's okay to admit you applied them wrong or misread how the equation was laid out because you use excel too much.

I said I misread it and used it wrong, dipshit. In fact I've said it twice on this thread. I've never seen any real engineer doing any type of complicated math use ÷ instead of writing it as a fraction. Call it bullshit all you want but maybe you're just a software guy that doesn't really deal with any type of complex math formulas.

In fact this sign ÷ is really just a fraction where the numerator and denominator are missing. It's primarily used by people who aren't good with fractions.
