Even if only runs it once or twice a game or every other game...as long as the threat is there, opponents will be forced to respect it.    

if its this level then its much better. i'd like to see them encourage MM to take off when no one is open and the hole is there for an easy 8 yard gain.

One of the things that scrub Bortles got better on this year, was his awareness to finally leave the pocket and not sit back there and make a forced bad throw.  I'm all for Marcus to do the same if he feels the urge.  He seems pretty good on avoiding the big hits and sliding.

Marita has a weapon with ability to utilize his legs. If he is smart about it, I don't mind him being a football player while becoming a better QB. John Elway once said in an interview, late in his career, that he wasn't as good a football player as he used to be, but he was a better QB. I hope in 5 years, Mariota can have the same progression.

Dodd makes me sad. He was very good his senior year, and I was hoping he was on the verge of breaking out. I liked the value of where he was picked too. But injuries derailed his rookie year, and he's never really bounced back. I don't have much hope for him. He's just a step too slow, which doesn't work in the NFL. I'd TRY him at DE in the training camp, but I don't hold out much hope. I think he could be a decent edge run guy in a 4-3, but I don't think he works for our defense. Shame, really. 

 

But our OLBs need decent backups. How's Wallace doing? Was he on injured reserve this year?

 I never could figure out why they didn't put  Reed on the field more often;  from what I saw,  he basically lit it up every time he was given an opportunity and had a nose for the ball.  I'm interested  to see if he's given more opportunities under a different coaching staff.

Reed found himself in a pretty good spot to head into next year..got some playing time at the end so likely would have been given a much better chance to show himself going into next year.  I think sticking with mularkey and co. was probably his best choice.  Maybe it works out for him but defiantly more un-known with new staff.

I don't care what the offense is, for Mariota to succeed long term he has to be a polished drop back pocket passer. 

Absolutely this.  The team, the coaching staff, the organization, everyone as a whole rises and falls on the arm of Marcus Mariota.  The next coaching staff will be measured in wins and losses of course but they MUST develop Mariota as a passer or this whole thing fails.
