Casey penalty

A defender on the ground isn't allowed to lunge at the QB's legs while he's in the pocket.

It looked to me like Casey just wrapped him up right after he hit the ground.  BS call from the angle I saw but maybe it looked different on TV.

And it was just Josh McCown. Imagine it was Brady or Rodger? Casey would be right next to Zeke on the lifetime ban list.

BTW f*ck the penalty, how about the fact that Casey is 6'1 310 & lined up at OLB & destroyed a double team to get to the QB. On the 2nd play he destroyed the interior & dropped the back for a loss.

Jurrel certainly isn't taking his money & lying down. Dudes a beast.

He looks just as quick as ever and says he's a lot stronger, could finally get his first All Pro if that's all true.

He did say he got stronger to play the run better right? He seriously looked like Geno Atkins pre ACL year last night, he was dominant in just 3-4 plays.

Goodall has dirt on someone.  The man gets booed constantly, loudly, and enthusiastically by all fans at every opportunity.  He is a PR nightmare for the league, and yet he stays.

He's a lightning rod. Gooddell draws all of the negative attention so the owners can avoid being held accountable.

Interesting take on it.

What's yours then? It's clear as day the owners like him and want him to do exactly what he's doing.... They may not agree with his discipline but they have ONE use for him and it's get the public to have one individual figure head to rally against

I watched the game again today. Casey was coming with high pressure and got blocked to the right at the last second and he almost beat the block but he started falling and th4 guy that was blocking him followed through and pushed him to the ground right at McCown's feet. His momentum drove him low. I don't think he even hit McCown in the legs, he was around his ankles. Looked like a bad call to me but it may have been close enough to the diving rule that they made the call.

I gave  mine first off.

My impression was that he had dirt on someone or several someone's.   I think the owners wanting him as lightning rod makes more sense.

I thought you were joking haha, like when people said that Nickey had photos of Fisher.

Thank Tom Brady.

They need to change the rules. And we need to oust Gooddell. If you can't go at people's heads then there should be more to go after

You may politely ask the QB to take a knee.

The point is Casey didn't lunge into his knee but reached and grabbed his legs with minor contact.  It is one thing to strike the knee and another to grab and tackle.  BS call.

That's what I alluded to earlier in the thread.  If a defender appears to be going to the ground and grabs at the QB's legs...there's a good chance it gets flagged, regardless of whether he actually hits him in the knees.

It's just like the blow-to-the-helmet rule.  We've all seen defenders called for roughing the passer when their hand barely grazed the QB's helmet or facemask...or even when it didn't hit the helmet at all.  But if it looks like a blow to the head from the referee's vantage point, they're gonna flag it.

I just hope Mariota is afforded the same level of protection by the officials.
