After playing against Western Michigan’s Corey Davisicon-article-link.gif in the 2015 Popeyes Bahamas Bowl during his final season at MTSU, Byard knew big things were ahead for the big receiver.

“He lit us up,’’ Byard said of Davis, the team’s fifth overall pick of the NFL Draft, on Thursday. Davis had eight catches for 183 yards and an 80-yard touchdown vs. MTSU.

“After the game I knew that he was going to go first round. I didn’t know when he was going to go in the first round, but I knew he was first-round talent. It is a blessing to have him on the team because he is a big-time receiver and he is going to be a big-time receiver for years.”

“For a guy to be 6-3 and 200 pounds who has a lot of speed and can take the top off the defense, that is any quarterback’s dream,” Byard said. “And that is an element of our offense we kind of missed a little bit last year, a guy who can take the top off a defense. So he is going to add a different dimension to our offense. We already have the power running game and to have a guy who can stretch the defense, stretch the field, is definitely going to be something teams have to game plan against.”

I'm sure this will put a smile on everyone's face.

Tez is waiting for Vince Young to take his starting job back.

"My role is to take the ball deep, take the top off the defense."

Definitely great to hear Byard say that after that was my biggest concern.

Everyone except for those pining for a tight  end instead...

Classic circle jerk.

Maybe. But it's not just that Byard said he was good. It's how he said it. "Take the top off the defense" for one. Is something specific that he believes he can do. Did he say that about Taylor? Would he say that about any receiver we drafted that he faced?

They are teammates.  Classic circle jerk.

As a fan I want it to be true.  As a fan I've learned what a circle jerk is.  Prove it come show time.  Discussion over.

So you think he made up the fact that he's capable of taking the top off the defense? Just plucked it off the top of his head?

Thought to himself ... "I'm going to say three different things about three different guys. I'm going to randomly choose, speed and take the top off the defense for Davis because that's what I've read about in the Titans Report forum."

"But for Taylor, I'm going to say something completely different. Because I pay attention to mock drafts and scouting reports involving other players ..."

Of course he was going to compliment them. I'm just saying what he compliments focused on were encouraging and seemed genuine.

What you sound like is classic, "fan's blind pessimism."

Like in Mariota's rookie year, "hey Mariota has a quick release and is really accurate." Blind pessimist : "What a circle jerk ... he's lying until I see it."

eyeroll
