True. It's the name Tennessee that fucked em. Nashville knights or something would have been better for surrounding sec states.

I do think ky would be less likely to hate than the others. And the proximity to Nashville is important. Almost the entire state of Kentucky is closer to Nashville than Memphis.

Nashville Storytellers. With a Johnny Cash inspired uniform (black, ie)

If they were going to name the team after Nashville then make it music related. Jocks might not get it or think it's cool, but fuck them.

As a frequent visitor to South Carolina you can add the Steelers to that state. I guarantee they like more teams that are not the Panthers

Same thing here in NC. Blame TV. The Panthers didn't come into existence until about 1994 so lots of the older generation still can't get the Redskins out of their blood. The Falcons coming into being didn't budge them either.

We have a lot of transplants from the north so we have a lot of Steeler, Patriot, Bills, Jets and Giants fans around here in central NC.

Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Maine are all heavy Patriots states.  Gillette Stadium is closer to Providence than Boston.  That study is BS.  There is no way in hell that the Steelers are more popular in those 3 states than the Patriots.  In fact, the Patriots opponents stay in Providence for regular season games.

People don't just change allegiances easily. If you grew up watching the Steelers weekly in the 70s when they won four Super Bowls, you are likely a fan for life. We still get mostly Steeler games in NC on the AFC network. Some Dolphins. Almost never Titans unless the opponent is a great team-- even when CJ was in his heyday.

Please trust me, the Patriots are by far the most popular team in Rhode Island.  It's not even close.  Rhode Island is practically the Patriots home state because, as I said, they play in a stadium closer to Rhode Island than Boston.  And the players stay in Providence for regular season games.  It is 20 miles from the Rhode Island border.

I lived in Rhode Island for 4 years.  It's Patriots #1, Giants #2, probably Jets #3.  There's not even a Steeler presence there.

IMO,  a significant number of fans in surrounding states refuse to root for a sports team from Tennessee under any circumstances, due to long-seated SEC allegiances and rivalries that were established decades before the NFL considered putting a franchise in Nashville.

I think it really hurts to be called the 'Tennessee' Titans. I'm a Tennessee Vols fan and for example, I wouldn't root for a team called Alabama '     '.

If they were the Nashville Titans, they'd have a lot more regional appeal. They should go ahead and do that IMO. Nashville has enough cache nationally, the rest of the state would actually prefer it and it'd be better for the organization appealing to potential fans in markets like Birmingham and Louisville.

What does appealing to those fans gain for the team though? I get that you could potentially try to get more hometown fans into the stadium but winning cures that more than anything.

Most revenues are shared throughout the league so owners don't care about too much for that besides bragging rights; but again, winning changes that and more than makes up for it nationally if you get people from Alabama making a point of not liking you. An owner will never go through the costs of completely rebranding and renaming every single thing about your franchise just to get some emotional support of out of state fans.

The simple fact is the Titans have been one of the worst teams in the past 12 years and the absolute worst team the 2 years before last. We hopefully were a garbage franchise and the only one who could compete for shittier is Cleveland, maybe Jacksonville.

The map clearly shows that people know it too.

Winning will change allegiances and only winning in the long run.

It might come as a surprise to you since you are from Wisconsin but many people in the state outside of greater Nashville really resent the team being called Tennessee.

As a Nashvillian, I would love to see the Titans embrace the hometown and be the Nashville Titans.

I see no upside in the team being branded Tennessee but a lot as Nashville.

Surprised Denver covers so much territory.

Manning pulled a lot for them.

If we can start winning consistently and get to the playoffs, some of these transplants in TN will convert "except when they play my hometown team."

What upside though? Out of area fans? What does that do to help the Owner?

It would cost millions of dollars at least to rebrand every single thing that has the Titans involved. For what? A few extra Hoo-rahs? Winning will do that anyway.
