Will the Titans play more zone with Logan Ryan at CB?

I know many of us researched Ryan beforehand and have read more today about him as a player. Is anyone concerned that he doesn't seem to be nearly as strong of a man CB as he is in zone? The Titans played mostly man last season. Michael Lombardi seems to think the Titans panicked into signing Ryan. PFF likes Ryan as a player, but doesn't think he's the best scheme fit for us considering we like to play more man.

Will we see a shift in our scheme or are they hoping Ryan can cover his man 1on1?

I could be wrong but isn't DLB known for his heavy zone blitz packages?

I thought he ran mostly zone but ran man last year...

someone correct me if wrong.

He essential invented zone blitz but the evolution of the NFL has greatly reduced the efficiency of that scheme and he's been forced to adapt.  I can definitely see them implementing more zone concepts this year but I find it difficult to see them reverting to what DLB ran back in his days with the steelers as it has lost it's potency.

Zone makes a ton of sense but it may make it harder to manufacture pressure.  They still don't have a nickel LB or a real playmaker in the secondary (granted there is potential there).

So would a signing like Hightower and drafting Hooker change that significantly?

I think hightower would help a ton as you can never have enough guys blitzing from different directions.  They would still need a nickel LB though and you also have to figure out what to do with the LB's you have on the roster.  It's a lot of money and resources tied up into guys that won't play every snap.

Having said that, Hightower is a great player and would give DLB a lot of flexibility.

Hooker has the range to cover TE's and they like to play a bunch of 3 safety sets.  He could also play some nickel LB so that eliminates the need I just referenced.

The more I think about it, I think that would make this FA much more palatable because i'm kinda meh as of right now.  I don't think they've really gotten better though they have shored up some weaknesses.

It can be argued that zone makes it easier to manufacture pressure since you don't need every potential receiver accounted for. Zone can also look like man coverage depending on the technique and offensive play. (Ex. Cover 3 vs. a go route - in which case the defender plays this exactly the same was as man).

It's all about the QB.  The best get the ball out in 2.5 seconds.  The bigs have to get pressure.  ILB upgrade in draft or FA and look to get better in the rotation on the DL either internal, FA (doubtful) or draft.

Sure, I can see that too.
