I went to practice and I saw basketball playing like I had never seen. I sat up in the bleachers and I didn't even ask to try out. Many years later, I realized that while I was 14 years old, many of these kids were as old as 18. They are not bad people, they just like to play sports. I was not remotely a Whiz guy. I was against the hire and miss him zero. My arguments against firing Whiz had nothing to do with Whiz. I am very much a stability guy and I don't see wisdom in repeatedly moving on from coaches after a short period of time. That even goes for bad coaches they hire, including Mularkey. Three years minimum is my preference ... not one and a half years ... not when you're in the midst of a defensive shift and have a young QB playing well ... and certainly not when the roster is as much the problem as anything. Keeping a guy for stability reasons also doesn't equal Whiz sticks and you want to keep him so just hire anyone. In fact, it's much the opposite. Keep the guy for stability but if you don't, hire the best guy possible. Hiring Mularkey presents more opportunity for further instability than almost any other hire. After the way last season ended, he had a bad record and track record here already. His clock is already ticking and the media and fans won't start at 0-0 if things start out bad. They'll start out with whatever shit record he put up last year, plus the team quit on him, plus OMG have you seen his record at his first two stops? Instability central is what we've got. Colleges might be morally or ethically in the wrong by turning their head the other way but ultimately the public education system failed to teach the student and gave him a diploma so he could meet the college entry requirement.
