Media Not Doing its Job with CJ Situation

I hesitate to make yet another CJ thread but I felt compelled to touch on something following another bad performance by the Titans run game.

The media is barely making an effort to get to the bottom of this.

Sure, you can find random articles from Profootballfocus (barely even heard of that site) and one "run game breakdown" from Sports Illustrated but nobody is really digging deep. We have barely any quotes from current or retired coaches, only one snippet from one player, I haven't heard ANYONE from the Tennessean talk about his work or practice habits or get an "Inside Source" on clues to his struggles.

Nobody has talked to former coaches. What does Jeff Fisher see from his best player? Kevin Mawae, who helped him run for 2,000 -- does he see it as an o-line issue or a CJ issue? Mawae is a very candid person and would definitely give his thoughts if asked. What about Mike Mayock, who is a pro at breaking down players, has anyone talked to him?

CJ worked out under Bo Jackson's program over the summer what was the workout? Former running back coaches, the last two that worked with CJ, what do they see?

If this was a New York Giants player they would've looked under every rock already. But it's not just because the Titans are a small market, Tennessee's own media is really missing the mark, leaving fans to just sit in forums and speculate with quotes from current Titans players and coaches who are obviously going to back up its own.

I don't know is it just me?

sounds like you're the man for the job.

You know... been thinking about it. I'm sportswriter, work for a company, but don't work on a high enough level to warrant any of those guys' agent even giving me the time of day.

Are you serious? The only thing Nashville sports talk radio has mentioned is CJCJCJCJCJCJCJCJCJCJCJCJCJCJCJCJ

Sportstalk radio with some hosts saying this and that and some angry people calling in is not getting to the bottom of it.

Seriously, I just bought a new article system for the site that is by the same company who makes the forum software. I will give you my NFL Replay password so you can watch the tape if you want to do an in depth article. It would be a good way to debut.

Me? Break down film? Ehhh, I would rather leave that to the experts. However, I will look into how difficult it will be to get a hold of the people I mentioned. I doubt it will be very easy.

actually any attention it is getting in the national media goes like this " TN was idiotic to sign Chris Johnson to that contact, Chris Johnson has fallen off the map production wise after signing...... Chicago needs to pay Forte before camp to avoid the same mistake the titans made by waiting and letting it lead to a hold out.....BLAH BLAH BLAH chicago"

Up to this point, I think the general consensus was that CJ was just out of sync, and would eventually find his rhythm.

But now we're seven weeks into the season, and instead of getting better, CJ appears to be getting worse.

And for the first time this year, CJ has no excuse. The O-line actually blocked reasonably well for him, opening holes and giving him room to move. Palmer did a much better job of varying the run calls and mixing things up.

And CJ responded with what was arguably the worst outing of his career....not a single run over 3 yards.

As fans, we're obviously pissed off, and the backlash from the fan base grows worse by the day.

As far as the media goes, I don't think we'll see any significant backlash. They'll just focus their attention on the new flavor of the week, and CJ will be written off as another washed-up has-been who isn't even worth talking about.

I heard Ross Tucker and former scout Matt Williamson talk about CJ Monday. Tucker said CJ was garbage and Williamson said the problem was almost all Johnson.

I expect we'll start seeing the problem covered more by the breakdown shows like NFL playbook and Edge NFL match-up. It won't be pretty either.

CJ isn't getting worse, he had 3 games heading into Sunday with less than 3yds per carry and a game with 13 carries for 21yds. What's happening is rational people can no longer make excuses for him because it's so blatantly obvious how bad he is. I said all long forget the stats, watch with your eyes. This also dates back into last year so using the off season as an excuse is reaching.

NewsToTom great breakdown. I agree that not only is CJ playing badly, he's not even an NFL RB at this point. If you pulled Eddie George off the street Sunday it's unlikely he would have been worse.

I've had about everyone in WI say the same thing to me as the OP. The most the media says is "he is paid to much not to produce - and he isn't."

Nobody (at a professional level) is breaking down the film, explaining it, and showing it. Nobody is interviewing key people previously associated with him. Fans have done more work on the issue.

Hell, I'd suggest Guru start calling people as a reporter working for Titans Central. I can't imagine it'd be that easy, there gotta be some sort of credentials people expect, but it's better than nothing.
