Mike and I put together a project for the board. Glad people enjoyed it. I enjoy looking at other peoples mocks as well, and its also nice to see the direction they like to go, and gives myself a better direction on where we should go over what I have been saying/doing...

If I combined the mocks of everyone today, and put together a plan that was sound, and satisfied the board by not going crazy in FA as y'all like to call it, it would look something like this...

1 Big time signing in FA, and a bunch of mid level guys, and rotation players... I say we bring in around 7 in FA

It's known we have 50+ in cap room, and we are required to spend 90% of that... I'm gonna spend around 80% and give the players in FA a majoirty of 3-4 year deals... Deals that expire when it's time to resign Mariota, Lewan, and Casey & possibly Walker

My goal in these mocks is not to get us to the superbowl this year, but to win the division with key pickups, smart drafting, and players who FIT...Mistake Mike and I made in our plan was cutting Stevens and not acquiring a KR... I'm also gonna do the most likely trade in the draft, which won't haul in alot of picks, but enough to get us 1 more quality player

Cuts

Michael Griffin - FS

Blidi Wreh-Wilson - CB

Justin Hunter - WR

Dexter McCluster - RB

Andy Gallick - C

David Cobb - RB

Resignings

Byron Bell - He gives us a swing OG and back up OT with vet experience to LT and RT

Al Woods - He showed promise this year and proved he could play well, and is a favorite of Lebeau. Cost effective

David Bass - He showed he could be a decent rotational OLB when Morgan isn't hurt and he isn't full time. He is also good on ST

Andrew Turzilli - Has promise as a deep threat, and resigned to PS

Tre McBride - KR/PR guy who has promise as slot and PS guy

Jose Matias - Promising young OG who is once again resigned to our PS

Quinton Spain - 1 year deal to backup our LG

Jamon Meredith - Another OL signed for backup purposes

Joe Looney - Another OL (C) who is penciled in as our back up C to Schwenke going into the offseason

Damion Stafford - ST ace, and also a very good 3rd safety in 3 safety looks

Restructure

Jason McCourty restructures his deal to save cap room, and stick with the team

Free Agents - I'm stealing a few FA pickups from some of the posters mocks I have seen around here...

Damon Harrison - NT Jets - 4 year 20 million with 6 guaranteed. - STARTER

Trumaine Johnson - CB Rams - 4 year 24 million with 8 guaranteed - STARTER

Ronnie Hillman - RB Broncos - 3 years 9 million with 3 guaranteed. - Explosive rotational back, who can alternate carries and be effective in passing game.

Rishard Matthews - WR Dolphins - 2 years 5 million with 2.5 million guaranteed

Bobbie Massie - RT Cardinals - 4 year deal 24 million with 7 guaranteed - STARTER

Ben Jones - C Texans - Young promising Center with starting experience... 3 years 9 milllion with 4 guaranteed. COMPETES WITH SCHWENKE

DRAFT

Cleveland trades #2 pick to jump to #1 to secure Goff... They surrender this years 2nd, and next years 3rd to make the move.

We trade our #32 pick to the Cowboys for their 2nd rounder and 4th rounder, so they can acquire Carson Wentz as QBOTF

1) DeForest Buckner - DE Oregon

2) Darian Thompson - FS Boise State

2) Joshua Perry - ILB Ohio State

3) Noah Spence - OLB Eastern Kentucky - If it wasn't for all his troubles he wouldn't slide this far

4) Leontee Carroo - WR Rutgers - Great talent, DUI last summer

4) Alex Collins - RB Arkansas - Big running back with homerun speed... Draft is deep at RB and OL/DL/LB/S... Causing him to fall to the 4th... 2nd/3rd round value

5) Kevin Peterson - CB OK State

6) Le'Raven Clark - OT Texas Tech - Very raw with big upside... Could see him starting career at OG and eventually backup at OT

6) Jakeem Grant - Texas Tech WR/KR/PR - Size hurts him, but he is electric with ball in his hands, and is great return man. Only 5'7 maybe 5'8

7) DeVonte Fields - OLB Louisville - This kid may go undrafted with all his collegiate troubles, but there is no harm in picking him up. He gives us additional OLB Depth

We spent the majority of our offseason focused on finding the right guys, not the top guys to fill our position of need, and focused on defense in the early rounds in the draft. We picked up 4 offensive guys in FA... A starting RT and C, and a rotational guy at RB in Hillman who is great in the pass game. We also signed Rishard Matthews who is a big fast WR who showed alot of promise in Miami, and was dicked over when they drafted DeVante Parker, and he found himself outnumbered.. He would be a good fit with what we are doing here... Big size and speed

We only sign 2 defensive guys in FA, and both are starters. Damon Harrison and Trumaine Johnson... Harrison starts at NT with Woods backing him up, and Johnson is the #2 CB with Cox moving to NB

In the draft our first 3 picks are instant day 1 starters.

DeForest Buckner is an elite DL and fits this team way better than Bosa. He is a disruptive force and is huge. 6'8 300 pounds and athletic as hell. He is day 1 starter across Casey at the other DE spot. Joshua Perry is a big time LB who plays all 3 downs, is veratile and can even play some OLB if needed. HE is paired with Williamson in the middle. Darian Thompson who is my #3 rated FS behind Ramsey and Jackson in the draft is a ballhawk at Boise State and is inked as our day 1 starter at FS

Noah Spence provides starter like material, but he is backup to Morgan and Orakpo at OLB, and gives us great depth at that position without much fall off, incase one gets hurt. He would be a 1st/2nd round pick if it wasn't for his troubles early in college.

Leontee Carroo is possibly one of my favorite WR's in this draft, but same thing with him... He was arrested for DUI last summer, but still had a very good season. He is 6'1 210lbs, great hands, runs good routes, and would be a big addition to the WR corp...

Alex Collins slides to the 4th round in this draft with the #'s at RB... There are a ton of guys we could have gone with in the 4th, but we settle for Collins who would be labeled the starter, but come off the field on 3rd down and give way to the vet Hillman in those situations who is a better receiver and blocker in the backfield. Collins has homerun speed, and power. Given a full offseason and year of playing in the NFL, he would develop into a full time starter. It would be more of a 70-30 time share with Collins getting most of the snaps, but Hillman our 3rd down guy.

Kevin Peterson is my worst kept secret in this draft... He might even go in the 3rd round. He is that good, but there are so many CB's in this draft that he is an after thought. He will make a solid pro, and gives us way better upgrade over what we had in BWW and Sensabaugh.

Some key moves I make to the OL

- I move Warmack to LG, his natural position he played in college and the position he was so good at

- I move Poutasi to RG where he can use his power and road grading skills to be more effective as a Guard, and help open running lanes.

- Ben Jones beats out Schwenke for the starting Center position, and Schwenke is our backup Center

Here is our roster

QB - Mariota, Mettenberger

RB - Collins, Hillman, Sankey,

FB - Fowler

WR - DGB, Wright, Matthews, Carroo, Douglas, Grant

TE - Walker, Fasano, Stevens

LT - Lewan, Meredith

LG - Warmack, Spain

C - Jones, Schwenke

RG - Poutasi, Bell,

RT - Massie, Clark

25 Offensive Players

Defensively

DE - Casey, Jones, Klug

NT - Harrison, Woods

DE - Buckner, Blackson

OLB - Morgan, Fields, Bass

ILB - Williamson, Perry, Woodyard

OLB - Orakpo, Spence

CB - McCourty, Johnson, Cox, Peterson, Riggs

FS - Thompson, Huff

SS - Searcy, Stafford

Defense - 24

Special teams - 4

K - Succop

P - Kern

KR/PR - Grant

LS - Brinkley

Practice Squad players

Andrew Turzilli - WR

Tre McBride - WR

Jose Matias - OG

Derrick Lott - DE

JR Tavai - OLB

And the rest would be UDFA from this draft

We upgraded the OL with Massie, Jones

We upgraded our RB with Hillman and Collins

We upgraded WR with Rishard Matthews and Carroo

We got a dynamic KR/PR in Grant

We upgraded our front 7 with Harrison at NT, Buckner at DE, Perry at ILB, and Spence/Fields as rotational OLB's

We upgraded our CB position with Trumaine Johnson and Kevin Peterson to replace BWW and Sensabaugh... Johnson is our Starter, Cox our NB, and Peterson/Riggs backups

We got a rangy centerfield type FS in Darian Thompson who clearly upgrades Michael Griffin

This folks... Is how we compete for the AFC South this year with an influx of Vets at the right positions, and youth at the right positions... Mariota gets a clean pocket, running game, better weapons, and the defense gets an elite DE to pair with Casey in Buckner, and Perry to start alongside Williamson, and Thompson to be our FS and let Searcy play his natural position of SS

Youth starters at the right positions

Vet starters at the right positions

and 7 FA's, none of which break the bank, and all of which provide leadership, depth, and a few day 1 starters who aren't the biggest names, but schematically fit guys.

I like you FA's Johnson, Mathews, Massie, and Harrison.  All reasonable contracts and upgrades at positions of need.

I think we're ok at Center.  Also, I don't like spending money on RB's in FA but I know people will disagree so no complaints.  Don't understand some of the cuts so maybe you can explain your thoughts on some of that.

I'll be happy with most any draft where they pull off a trade down.

Buckner fits the scheme.  If you can trade down and get him, you've won the draft.  I have to look closer at some of the other players before i'm qualified to make comments.

All in all good job.  Really hope they manage to pull off two trade downs.  Really lets you bring in a lot of young talent.

I think center is a huge problem.  Schwenke's injuries have disrupted the communication and continuity on the OL for the last two years.

That's true.  I forgot he was hurt the year before as well.  Something to look at.  I still think there are other places to go in FA besides center but you have a fair point here.

Robinson has made the same point as well. That's why in another post I said I was interested in Ryan Kelly in the 2nd.

cut Cobb b/c he is worthless and has no desire to be even average. He was a late round pick who was outplayed by a slow ass UDFA

Cut Hunter b/c face it. Time is up on this project. He isn't even JAG

Cut BWW b/c he is another JAG and our UDFA Riggs looked way better than him... Even BW Webb looked better.

Replace those 3 guys with actual good football players, and move on from losing players from a loser regime

- Side note... They are camp cuts

McBride was a draft pick....why would we need to re-sign him?

I like the draft you put together, btw...no idea on the FA numbers, but they look like good people to bring in, and the prices seem good for both sides. Which one do you consider the BIG FA acquisition though?

I would wait to decide on McBride until the new OC and WR coach has spent some time with him, just because of his speed.  He's the fastest receiver on the roster.
