So we just need to lose out for the number 1 pick, right?

Not necessarily.

The tiebreaker is based on SOS, which can change on a weekly basis depending on who wins/loses.

Geez. The Chargers just can't catch a break. They've been in every game.

The end of that game was classic "stepping on your own dick", at it's best.  1st and goal on the KC 1 yard line and then delay of game, incomplete pass, false start, incomplete pass as time expired.

Rules for determining draft order

The selection order is based on each team's win-loss record in the previous season and whether the team reached the playoffs. Teams that did not reach the playoffs the previous season are ranked in reverse order of their records (so the team with the fewest wins is awarded the first selection). Ties between teams with identical records are determined by the following tiebreakers (in order):

  1. Strength of schedule, which is the combined win-loss record for all 16 of the team's opponents in the previous season (ties count as a half win and half loss). The team with the lower strength of schedule (i.e. their opponents compiled fewer wins) is granted the earlier pick in round one.
  2. Division tiebreakers (if the teams are in the same division).
  3. Conference tiebreakers (if the teams are in the same conference).
  4. Coin flip(s), which occur(s) at the pre-draft NFL Combine.

Hopefully one of these QBs will have good prodays and combines to convince one of these teams that need a QB to trade up in front of the Browns.

Wouldn't they (qb needy team) just trade with the Chargers instead of us?

I like Goff more than lynch and cook.  I really wanted to see Goff and Cook to take big leaps this year, but they didn't.  None of these qb's were as good as Mariota when he came out.  Browns/49ers/rams know that these qb's will available when they pick.
