A 30 yard run would be nice. A 10 yard run on first down would be nice. Like what Frank Gore gave to the Colts. We averaged 2.8 yards per carry yesterday outside of a Kendall Wright run. Yes, not being able to run in the second half, especially in the 4th quarter WAS a factor in the game. You can patch together runs and rbs but you can't rely on it. We need reliability. Did anyone even touch Frank Gore on his runs? I'm not arguing about it. It's silly. Let's stick to the topic at hand. You want him to be like Luck and just be under assault all day? Or do you want a team like Seattle with the QB making plays when called upon? One has two Super Bowl appearances by the way. Too many drop backs puts you in harms way. Like against Cleveland. You think we're going to play the Colts every week? Our defense was doing great until we couldn't control the clock in the fourth quarter. Then our QB had to make another deep throw ... one throw too many, to get us yet another conversion. All the sudden the waterfall starts as our defense was tired. Even Aaron Rodgers has runners he can rely on. To give us chunk plays when needed. We don't have that. No I realize that the running game is a function of the OL and how the defense defends the other team. I don't care if there's 10 attempts. Tim Posted September 28, 2015 Report Share Posted September 28, 2015 I know that many of us have said that the only two guys we'd take ahead of Mariota if starting the team today are Rodgers and Luck, but where do you all thinks he ranks right now, 3 games into his career, as a starting QB? I know it's hard to put him ahead of more accomplished guys when he's played in 3 games and the Titans have won only once, but it's gotten to a point with him where when he drops back to pass I basically expect a completion and am surprised when it doesn't happen. He's certainly not in Rodgers, Brady, Luck, Romo, Ryan and Roethlisberger's league right now. But if we're being honest with ourselves what other QB would you want on this team today that would give the Titans a better chance to win more games? Yes he's a rookie and that hurts a little. But that 2nd INT he threw yesterday, Luck made the exact same throw. Guys are going to turn the ball over. It happens. Is he the most accurate QB in football? No but he's getting close to being among the most accurate. So instead of discussing how painful yesterday's disaster was, let's talk about what the Titans have that the majority of the league doesn't. A young franchise QB with all the upside in the world. When you have a franchise QB the other pieces fall into place. It happened with GB. It happened with Pittsburgh. It happened with Indianapolis. And I am confident that it'll happen with the Titans. Maybe not this season but I fully expect this team to be a legit playoff contender as of 2016. Mariota is a stud, and my opinion is we dont need to hide him behind a power offense. He's going to be much better than Russel Wilson, who has to run to find passing lanes because of his height. I think we would have whipped the Colts yesterday if Chip Kelley were calling the plays. On offense i would scrap the RBBC and look for a good talented back in the draft like Leveon Bell/Arian Foster if Mariota had a back like that it would give the offense another weapon and another player the defense has to be accountable for. Also i'd try to improve the offensive line. On defense i would look for a pass rusher early in the draft a good young pass rusher could help a lot. Orakpo after all is an aging player. Also i would do what i could to improve the secondary. A good defense wins games and is also a young QB best friend. Those are the changes i would make to benefit Mariota. The defense made plays and held it's own until the 4th quarter (as expected). I still don't understand why DGB is not more of a factor earlier in the game. Justin Hunter is basically in DGB's way, yet KW still force feeds him in the 1st half. Personally, I think we could have murdered Indy's secondary with the quick strike throws we killed TB with. I know hes a rookie, but is there ever a situation where Brady/Rodgers/Manning is carrying too much of the offense? The kid can play, let him loose. He not on a pitch count or something. At this point in time I have more faith in his dinks and dunks than any of the RBs moving the ball on early downs.
