scine09 Posted September 28, 2015 Report Share Posted September 28, 2015 I know that many of us have said that the only two guys we'd take ahead of Mariota if starting the team today are Rodgers and Luck, but where do you all thinks he ranks right now, 3 games into his career, as a starting QB? I know it's hard to put him ahead of more accomplished guys when he's played in 3 games and the Titans have won only once, but it's gotten to a point with him where when he drops back to pass I basically expect a completion and am surprised when it doesn't happen. He's certainly not in Rodgers, Brady, Luck, Romo, Ryan and Roethlisberger's league right now. But if we're being honest with ourselves what other QB would you want on this team today that would give the Titans a better chance to win more games? Yes he's a rookie and that hurts a little. But that 2nd INT he threw yesterday, Luck made the exact same throw. Guys are going to turn the ball over. It happens. Is he the most accurate QB in football? No but he's getting close to being among the most accurate. So instead of discussing how painful yesterday's disaster was, let's talk about what the Titans have that the majority of the league doesn't. A young franchise QB with all the upside in the world. When you have a franchise QB the other pieces fall into place. It happened with GB. It happened with Pittsburgh. It happened with Indianapolis. And I am confident that it'll happen with the Titans. Chicago had a surplus of rookies come in polished and vet like and it just amazing to see Mariota step in and look like hes been in the NFL for years. His play action fakes are something that really amaze me. Through three games I don't see any flaws that point to him not being in the elite category or very close as long as he does it with consistency. Sure you have RGIII type paths but Mariota is doing this ALL with his arm, he almost refuses to run. Defenses haven't really had to worry about that aspect yet. After the last 10+ years of QBs I can watch Titans lose every Sunday and still enjoy watching this kid play and be exctied about the future. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Could the Titans have closed out the game yesterday if they had a quality RB instead of just a guy out there? Very good chance of it. Maybe not this season but I fully expect this team to be a legit playoff contender as of 2016. He's a 65%-70% passer. It's pretty obvious he'll get there and is trending in that direction. And yeah, it was after his first or second preseason where I realized I didn't have to worry where he was going with the ball when given time. Right now, we're forcing him to convert way too many third down situations. Barely any QB, much less a rookie, can be flawless after 46 passes. We need to cut it to 30 per game at least. I'm not sure what you expect out of a RB but what he did was OK, it's not enough for a young team. I'm not saying you need to invest a top 10 pick, but it needs to be more than a "solid" runner on a young Titans team. Again, I hope Cobb is the guy. Only you would blame yesterday on the running backs. Plays are ALWAYS called back for holding. Because there's a lot of holding. To use that as an example is laughable. A 30 yard run would be nice. A 10 yard run on first down would be nice. Like what Frank Gore gave to the Colts. We averaged 2.8 yards per carry yesterday outside of a Kendall Wright run. Yes, not being able to run in the second half, especially in the 4th quarter WAS a factor in the game. You can patch together runs and rbs but you can't rely on it. We need reliability so Mariota doesn't have to constantly throw to keep drives alive. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
