Mariota showed exactly what I wanted to see today

I guess if you're a Titans fan after the last decade, you would be excited that Marcus didn't throw his shoulder pads in the stand or end up flopping on the ground to be carted off the field.  Is it cool that Marcus didn't end up flopping on the ground or throwing his shoulder pads in the seats?  Sure.  But there's only a handful of teams if any that call this attention as something to see.  I mean shit, did Winston quit last week?  No.  It's just not something you have to experience with even a baseline bone stock average NFL QB.  We just haven't had one for a long time.

Did he play through the pain?  Sure.  Most QBs in the NFL does this every year.

I'll be the odd man out and say I thought Marcus had a bad day.  The defense got to him...not just physically, but mentally.  His accuracy was way off and he made a host of bad decisions.  If he had not had the penalty that negated the pick and that defender had the wherewithal to realize the QB just threw the ball directly to him, his day would have been a lot worse.

We are to expect this from a rookie QB with this shitty of a team surrounding him (that goes for 6th rounders too).   This isn't going to be his last bad game.  It was his second NFL start against a defense that went for the throat and an OL that handed them the knife as they ran by.  He's not used to playing against NFL defenses and a shit OL.  I expect him to learn from it and settle down in future games....or at least I sure fucking hope so.

He's got a long way to go as does the entire team.  Hopefully when this sorts itself out and we have a better OL and settles in, he'll so comfortable with the pass rush he'll eat teams alive.

Im going to rewatch the game, but he was hit around 6-8 times within 2-2.5 seconds and probably 12-15 times overall. There isn't a QB in the league who has a great game under those conditions. I could name a few who might play well, but those are few and far between. For what we gave him I thought he was pretty far to the positive.

The times he threw it early his guy was smothered, so his choices were to hang onto the ball and find another read while getting destroyed, or to spaz out. He chose the latter a few times, but he also made plays like the one to DGB. The ball control issue has to get taken care of, but just like I gave Mett the benefit of the doubt (you seem to harp on this like it can't go both ways) I will to MM because I saw a lot of positives through the mistakes that were made glaring by a sieve line that was getting him ragdolled by 250-330 pound sharks who smelled blood in the water.

Didn't anything besides the OP and first page... We won't be able to attract shit this offseason in terms of FA. Only way is if it is a young guy who has a chance to start along with getting overpaid.

Until we put up W's... you're a fucking idiot and then some to think people want to play for the Titans.

This why you run no huddle/uptempo, gives your OL a bit of an edge when they can't block anyone.  Oregon's OL was not that good.

Combination of a bad OL and wr'so who can't get open against man coverage spells disaster.  Didn't help when MM was off on a lot of passes.

Funny you mention that. I was thinking about writing a post about this very thing, along with how we can run drves like the first in the 2nd half out of 12, 13, and 21 personnel. I think Walker being out stopped us from using the no huddle more often, but I can't understand why we wouldn't even try it in the first half.

Making good plays in the midst of bad, especially late in the game that is still within reach after a rough start, is exactly what you'd want to see in a rookie QB. Well, besides not having a rough start to begin with.

I'm not sure if you misinterpreted my post or not.  Marcus had a bad day.  It's hard to find any one saying otherwise except fan forums.  The defense got to him by taking away what he was comfortable with and what felt like constant blitzing.  He was rattled by it and made some mistakes.  No one is saying the rest of the team played well.

I'm not sure why saying this is like curse words.  It's his second NFL start on a shitty team with a defense going for the throat.  He's never had to deal with anything like this before.  It's okay.  He's a rookie.  He's going to have more bad games because this team isn't going to magically transform into something else.

It's probably best to have gotten it out of the way, to tamp down expectations.  None of that is to take away any of the good things he did, just saying he had a bad day.  Well, that and to point out him not throwing pads into the stands or getting carted off the field are not things normal teams point to as "the good".

I believe there were three passes, two down the right sideline and one the left, where Mariota threw the ball a little out of bounds.  Maybe DGB has a shot at the pass Wright had because of his wing span and ht but even if Wright does a better job with his feet he might not be able to reach that one. The one thrown to DGB was a little long and the one down the other side was definitely too far out.  Close on those but not accurate enough.

Mariota was a little off target all game.  Those passes and a number of passed that were thrown behind WRs.  Cleveland did a good job of mixing things up and keeping Mariota a little off his game.

The one to Wright could have been too long.  It certainly was for Wright.  But the early one to DGB was only long because DGB didn't keep running.  He slowed up and looked around and saw the pass and then tried to recover.

But he had a step and the ball looked to be on target, until he let up.  If he had seen it coming earlier I'm pretty sure that was a TD.

The one thing I've noticed with Mariota that you don't see with a lot of rookie QB's (certainly not with Winston despite yesterday's result) is you can tell it's his team.  Last year you didn't see it with any of the rookies.  Everything revolves around him.  In 2012 Russell Wilson and Robert Griffin (despite their great seasons) were not the focal point of their teams.  Andrew Luck was.  And I see the same thing with Mariota.  I was watching that clip I posted of the Titans versus the Patriots in 2002 and even though McNair only threw like 24 passes and completed I think 11 you could just tell that he was the entire team.  That's how it looks with Mariota.

And as the weeks go on and Mariota's internal clock speeds up and he learns that it's okay to throw the ball away and does a better job handling the ball while looking for somewhere to throw he's only going to improve.

He played like a fucking warrior. The same thing happened to our QB's last year, but we went through 3 of them.

The guys will rally. They will see the tape of their man getting pounded into the ground. Lewan will bring a switchblade stashed in his pads against Colts.

We can beat them with McCourty, if he's back. Blidi needs to fill-in. Sensa has no business in man coverage alone w/o safety help.
