County Clerk Kim Davis In Custody For Contempt

Actually the church I go to now believes in annihilation.    And things will work to God's plan but the bible does say we fight not flesh and blood but spiritual wickedness in heavenly places.  Which mean my fight is not with you but the demonic powers that deceive you (and me of course).

So, you watch Hal Lindsey?  Or is that just your way of making fun.  Because the book of Revelation says Jesus is coming on a white horse.  Not Hal Lindsey.

And all this discussion was to elicit one thing and one thing only.  I wanted to see if ONE person could have some compassion and understanding of this woman's rights.  She really feels like she is doing the right thing based on her genuine religious beliefs.  Does that matter to anyone?  Nope.  So yes she is being jailed for her religious beliefs but obviously she needs to quit.

Of course now we have brilliant comments like she is harassing people (seems she is in jail).  She is being discriminated against but who cares about her rights?  So while I don't agree with what she is doing or her method it amazes me how not one person sees the hypocrisy.  Oh well.  Carry on. I get it now.

You really think the book means Jesus will literally come down on a flying horse? Can't Jesus just fly down himself if he wants? Why would he need a flying equine? Do you believe in a literal whore of Babylon and an actual Beast with multiple heads and crowns and all that jazz? You really think the author means that the book comes to fruition as an apocalyptic Godzilla movie on acid?

It's Jewish apocalyptic literature chock full of symbolism and imagery. Of course evangelical dumb fucks can't read it. They basically venture in necromancy when they try to interpret world events as fulfilling Revelation like some two-bit dumb shit new age believer in the "prophecies" of Nostradamus.

"See this right here is talking bout Russia! No China! Well, whatever it is CLEAR we are in the LAST DAYS". Only, things aren't even worse now than ever. World wars are down. Violence, murder and mayhem per capita is down. But this belief that fundys have that we are always in the last days colors their worldview. It's perpetual proof that things are always worse than ever.  "THE WORLD IS MAD AND ONLY ME AND MY CLUB HAVE IT RIGHT! My magic book PROMISED me demons would battle me and HERE YA ARE YA DEMONS! GIT BACK!"

it's not a matter of compassion. It's a matter of doing her job.

We all have an understanding of her rights. Her rights do not include refusing to do the job she was elected to do. She has the right to hate gays. She has a right to be a Christian. But she doesn't have the right to deny other people their rights.

This is interesting.  We have liberals who actually see nothing wrong with putting this person in jail.  I agree, she should follow the law or resign her position but where is the outrage that a citizen of the United States is being out into jail for this?  Really?  She can't be sent home without pay or something until this is resolved?  They have to incarcerate this individual?  That seems "straight forward".  This is the most "shit for brains" thing I have seen in a long time.  If the tables were turned liberals would be going ape shit.

She defied a court order.  That usually means fines and/or imprisonment. Pretty simple.

You are trying so hard, only because you feel the need to side with her.  It's fairly pathetic.  Even more pathetic is everyone knows what side you were going to fall on.

She's in jail for failing to follow a court order to DO HER JOB.  Her job is to SERVE the public.  Serving the public would entail not abridging someone's LEGAL rights.  She can't be fired.  She can only be removed from office.  The only recourse is a court order for her to DO HER JOB.  She refused to do so.  She is not having her rights denied.  Get it?  Of course not.

Just replace marriage license with gun or church permit and Kim Davis with liberal.  We all know your response to that.

And Davis is a puppet here.  From that perspective, I do feel sorry for her as I don't think she realizes it.

It seems to me she didn't need to be jailed.  Public servants are suspended w/o pay everyday in this country.  Currently the office she works in is issuing marriage licenses again, so apparently her presence isn't required to do so, and neither is her signature required.

Either that or the licenses they are issuing aren't valid.  So which is it?

Why didn't the judge just suspend her, through an injunction and/or a restraining order, and have her removed from the premises?

I seriously doubt that jail was/is the only option available to the judge.

There are far too many people that seem to be enjoying this vengeful decision by the judge.

And some of them appear to be members here.

Just sayin'

It wasn't a vengeful decision.

When end you disobey a court order, you might go to jail.

If that wasn't on the table, no one would obey court orders.

It's necessary for the legal system to function properly.

I would be fine if the issue could be resolved without being jailed.  The judge did not feel fines (what the plaintiffs asked for) would suffice.

Judge Bunning, however, said from the bench that he believed fining Ms. Davis would “not bring about the desired result of compliance.”

I suspect there is still more information to come out regarding the circumstances of the decision.

It should be noted no one in the office was giving them out either, for months.

Those saying gay rights issues won't interfere with religious liberty/expression are many of the same ones who are 110% for churches being taxed. And if they are taxed, as for-profit, who's to say what they can freely say about this or that? The government? Aren't they already saying bakeries can't refuse to cater gay weddings? What else aren't Christians in government or commerce going to be able to refuse in the future? Altering the Bible? The manufacture and sale of Bibles itself could be construed as unconstitutional since this is a taxable venture. What if those who have a problem with the anti-homosexuality tone wished to sue the manufacturers to either change the offending language or cease operations?

Legally, what the woman did was wrong, but only because the laws have changed. She is wrong according to the laws of the land. But those smuggly wagging their fingers over the ruling to toss her in jail need to remind yourselves that slave traders used to wag their fingers in the faces of abolitionists too. Point being, laws are only guidelines we use to get by in life. They are not infinite. If they were how would we have ever gotten rid of slavery laws?

And honestly, idgaf how many times the woman was married. If we're going to point out her hypocrisy then we should also point out the hypocrisy of one of the most promiscuous groups of people on the planet demanding marriage licenses. Otherwise, we can all stfu up about hypocrisy.

If people are finding their ways, i.e. discriminating against a type of people, at the edge of what society and hence the law considers acceptable as time goes forward, then *they* have a problem, not everybody else. As I said before, discrimination has a way of souring itself over time with normal people.
