Lewan on Mariota

Good interview overall, Mariota talk starts at 2:57 but the whole thing is good.

How is your mind is that going to play out? Do you see it as Zack's team right now and the young guy has to come in and beat him out?

"I don't specifically how it really plays out in my head. I mean Me and Zach are best friends, like he's one of my best friends in the entire world and I've grown a huge relationship with him, but as far as these two quarterbacks go, [people up stairs] are making the calls and if that's the thing they needed the most with the second overall pick then obviously this kid's got major talent. Regardless of who is the winner of that job, I think that it's going to make the team so much better because they're both going to competing so hard that they have no choice to get better."

Also said he realizes it's a business and his personal life won't affect his play.

Lewan just dropped an elbow on the idea that he'd play harder for Mett over Mariota.

I thought that was the stupidest argument I heard. Lewan is a competitor and is going to be giving his all the the guy across from him. It doesn't make a damn difference who is behind center.

Let's get to the bottom line here in a hurry..I wanted to see Mett have his chance.. but Mariota and DGB have made this franchise relevant overnight.. and that means the players will make a whole lot more money if Mariota is successful.. at the end of the day, follow the money

Yep spot on if Mariota is 0-6 then we can talk Mett.

Talk is about all would happen. Unless Mariota is hurt or looks like Locker did when he was running around like a chicken with its head cut off, I don't think we will see a QB change this season, despite the record.

Except from day one Mariota has a far more favorable roster to work with, as well as full and total support and commitment from the organization and staff. None of which was ever there for Mettenberger. So it's not even close to apples to apples. Mariota would have been 0-6 in 2014 also.

Excusing away future hypotheticals on top of excusing past facts. Solid!

Obviously we know what he'll say, but we also know what he believes. We also know what a good number of the guys on the roster believe, even though they won't just come out and say it. Give em time, give Mett time, and there won't be anything stopping them from saying whatever they truly think. Mariota is really up against it. It's Whiz's way of "pushing" him. But, it's extremely reckless.

no "we" have no idea what he believes all we know is whAt he says.

Anyone with any football background knows one thing is these guys want to win and they want to win at any cost. They live for that game and if Mariota gives them the best chance to win then every single one of them including Metts best friEnd will be on board with Mariota.

I like Mett but the team was handed over to Mariota. Now it's up to Mariota what he does with it. 1 or 2 bad games is not going to make a difference. It's not an open competition the odds are stacked against Mett. I love having him as a backup in case Mariota doesn't work or gets an injury but Mett would have to play lights out in camp and preseason and even then I think it's still Mariota's job to lose.

I agree that Mariota would likely have been 0-6 with that roster against that competition. I don't think he would have been injured, though, and likely would have beat the Jags and Jets.

No way of knowing if Mariota would have been 0-6. I know one thing though 1 40 yard scramble for a TD can easily change the momentum and sway the outcome of a game though.
