If the Cavs win the NBA title this year, is LeBron the best ever?

Jordan dominated, won 6 championships essentially in a row.  Even the baseball hiatus was something making it MORE difficult to accomplish what he did.  It amazes me howpeople can revise history.  Jordan was a man among boys.  Reaching to argue the East was weak and the team they beat in the Finals from the West was also weak.  Yea, the whole NBA sucked when Jordan won 6 championships.

Oh, the strong/weak West gave them the Lakers (swept the Pistons that year, won three straight in LA) , Portland and Suns.  He came back after playing fing baseball and was better than ever.  He beat Seattle and the crappy, we made the Finals two years in a row Jazz twice.  Everything new always looks better.

I agree with most of this. The latest generation of NBA fans never had the chance to watch Jordan play in real time. His ability to impose his will on the opponent as well as his own teammates is something I've never seen anyone else do. That being said James is a top 5 NBA player of all time and has a more complete skill set. Both are/were dominant in their own right. I take issue with the notion James can't hold his jock and wouldn't have been as good back in the day. I find this line of thinking especially funny when it comes from someone who was born in the early 90's and had to resort to watching youtube and NBATV to see Jordan play.

Not sure where your reading comprehension got that I don't think Jordan can hold James jock.  I actually said they are "comparable" players.  What I did say was James has some work to do to have thee same accomplishments which includes another three additional championship in a row.  Obviously it is difficult comparing players from different eras.  I'm not taking anything away from James but James has accomplished something Jordan never could do.  Labron lost in the finals.  Twice.

Clearly not referring to you. If you reread the thread I'm sure you'll figure it out.

More than slightly off-topic, if you're going to give the impression that you're slow-drawling a word you should at least type out the right letter (e.g. the vowel). Unless you have a very weird tick in you're speech pattern that makes you sound out the t...

Actuuuaaaally the latter.

LeBron losing twice in the finals is something to consider but I don't give it a whole lot of weight since basketball is very much a team game.

It took Jordan 7 years to get to the finals.  LeBron got there in 4.

The 90's were weak. That's a fact.

Jordan's first title, Worthy and Scott were injured. He beat Magic with Vlade Divac and Sam Perkins. You beat Magic Johnson with AIDS playing with bums. Congrats.

The Blazers were the same talented but flawed team that the Pistons beat prior, the type of team that wouldn't come out of the West at all in the 80's. Same for the Suns and the Sonics. The Jazz were essentially the same team, but weaker than the team the Lakers eliminated in 1988.

The 90's sucked. The talent was too spread out. You had 6 expansion teams that depleted the talent pool. Jordan's main  rival died of a blowcaine overdose in 1986.

More on hand checking. Hand checking rules first changed in the late 70's so there was already rules against it, it just wasn't emphasized as greatly as it was when further rule emphasis was placed in the 00's. But it was called. It wasn't THE rule that would have Jordan averaging 50PPG in today's league. That's ridiculous.

Here is a call on handchecking in 1993

On an tangentially related note, if you (the proverbial you --anyone) believe that Michael Jordan actually had the flu virus during that game with the Jazz, you are fucking retarded.

Lebron James is a prima donna? Michael Jordan left basketball to play fucking BASEBALL. Jordan whined about calls as much as anyone.

Despite your claims of objectivity and having watched a ton of basketball, your comments show you haven't the slightest clue as to what you are talking about. Lebron James is a goddamned freight train. He wouldn't be stopped by mere hand checks.

You want to know the one rule change from the 90's that would have actually made it easier for Lebron in the 90's? Illegal defense. There were no zones. You couldn't double team a guy unless he had the ball. Lebron would absolutely murder with those rules.

Jordan bitched, most of the great ones do. LeBron takes that to another level. He constantly, as in every damn game I watch him play, takes himself out of a play because he's bitching to the refs or pouting.

Hand checks used to be vicious. Basketball was viscious. LeBron would not average 28 points a game under those rules. Think what you will. No big man did without a turnaround jumper, which he simply doesn't have. LeBron would be Scotty Pippen in 97.

Basketball was not vicious. What are you talking about? The Pistons played rough ball and got two titles out of it. The Knicks had to resort to the same tactics because they couldn't go toe to toe with the Bulls and the Heat copied that format. Outside of those 3 teams from the late 80's and 90's, all of the Championship caliber teams were skill based. The Game is far rougher now.

Yeah right. Those teams all hated each other. Now the NBA is akin to the May weather PAC fight. They're all rich as hell and good friends. Very few rivalries exist. I don't know what you're talking about my friend.

That's imbecilic beyond measure.

Who is better?

Player A - Gets to the finals, but loses

Player B - Wins every finals he appears in.

Answer my question first, then i'll answer yours.

Or he would be Magic, who thrived in that era without a jump shot and is considered one of the best to play the game. LeBron's 1000 times the passer and ball handler that Pippen was. Also Magic, like LeBron, wasn't hateful and aggressive ala Jordan or Kobe. He did just fine. Trying to project LeBron as somehow weaker in a different era isn't a good way to argue one way or another about what he can and can do.

If you play that game, where does it stop? The cream rises to the crop in any era. LeBron is a fine shooter, and could probably have developed a more substantial J then, but he doesn't need to be Ray Allen on the court, and the 90s wouldn't force him to become a chucker.

This whole idea of it being LeBron's personality, him not being able to play in a vicious league or something--it's all based on your own perceived dislike for the guy, not objective criticism.
