charleytolar
Some seem to want to equate the Mariota bandwagon with the Manziel bandwagon from last year. I don't remember their being that much reported interest in Manziel. Just a casual observation. Anyone have any hard evidence for or against that? Legaltitan
I don't see a parallel between Manziel and Mariota at all. Manziel the definition of hyped, and most football people did not think he was worthy of being drafted early, as I recall. I don't see much of a "bandwagon" with Mariota anyway. Granted, I don't watch TV, but it seems to have been a slow, developing process with embracing Mariota as a top QB since the end of the college season, rather than the "OMG it's Jonny Football!!12" we constantly heard about Manziel. In other words from my perspective the Mariota talk seems to have been based on actual evaluation, and putting everything together and analyzing it versus Manziel. Not that the folks are RIGHT on Mariota, but the interest seems to be sincere and well-reasoned.

Tex in a Can
It occurs to me that the Titans are playing the #2 selection extremely well. I don't know what they're going to do. I suspect other teams are wondering as well. Uncertainty about the pick, being open to trade offers, all of this could translate into somebody breaking the bank to move up. It could happen ! maybe not, but well played so far. Tex
Guest
If the Titans end up not taking Mariota it will have been the greatest smoke screen in the history of sports. I don't see how anyone can honestly believe the team is playing this well. They are smitten with Mariota and it will be a shock of they don't take him. At this point I still can't say what I think is most likely to happen.
Guest
You'll be shocked? At this point I still can't say what I think is most likely to happen. All you have to do is look at what those in decision making roles have said and done since the season ended.
Cyrus
The thought that anyone, especially the media, could make anything out of a Climer article simply astounds me.

You and I are in total agreement there. I don't even bother to read his stuff anymore. How he survived the purge at the paper a few years ago is beyond me. ctm
In addition if they don't go QB, then the front office will have essentially lied to the fan base all off season. That's probably not the best strategy right now.
TF_Titan
So who's the Qb if Mett gets hurt (he's been injured 2 consecutive seasons) I say draft either Winston/Mariota and let them compete against Mett. If QB is the most important position on the team. Why wouldn't you hedge your bets to make sure that you have more than one prospect? Why stop there? I say use every draft pick on a QB until one of them hits.
Legaltitan
oldschool I honestly don't know anymore. The reason why it could end up being such a huge "smokescreen" is because, (a) they are indeed engaging in smokescreen behavior while at the same time ( they are legitimately interested in Mariota as a prospect. Combine legitimate interest in drafting Mariota with an incentive to convince teams that's who you are drafting, and there you go. But despite legit interest, it still would not surprise me in the least bit if they go in a different direction. In fact I see it as about even odds of a trade, taking Mariota, or taking someone else, with perhaps a slight lean to taking Mariota. But I don't see how anyone can say they have any confidence in what the Titans are going to do at this point.
cenj
No one is reading a local opinion article by Climer and saying, "A-ha! It's all a smokescreen!" It means nothing. He may be right, but this doesn't blow the Titans cover.

I think it will be a greater shock if they do take him. I also think it's entirely possible that the Bucs go Mariota and take away the option -- not because the coaches prefer MM to Winston, but because ownership is getting involved and that always changes things. I agree with your last statement and said as much earlier today. Either way it's clear Winston is being downgraded for off the field issue but that won't stop the Mariota fanboys from misrepresenting the situation.
