ChesterCopperpot1
“@nfldraftscout: A lot of very smart people in the NFL think the Chargers are trading up to pick No. 2 overall. Me? I have no idea.” Discuss.
big2033
I find it hilarious that Marcus Mariota to the Chargers by trading a pick and your franchise QB in Philip Rivers makes perfect sense. But the Titans drafting Mariota .... "nah it's a bad fit." So a QB a team is willing to give up Rivers for is a bad fit for us? Not to mention the Chargers have an offense that was partially built by Ken Whisenhunt. The only reason this happens is that Whiz and Webster really, REALLY just want to throw caution to the wind and win now for the next few years. Bulluck4dmvp
If this is the case, I'd ask for Rivers, Fluker and 17 or Rivers, the 17 and their 1 next year (plus other picks).
bizzyeddie
I hope we don't end up with Rivers..I'd rather take my chances with Mariota being the answer for some time to come..or Mett guess it depends on what we get in a trade but I'm guessing not much based on the supposed value of Rivers
mctitan53
I wouldn't be surprised if they are trying to trade up, but I think it would take Rivers, their 1st (No. 17) and their 2nd (No. 48), maybe even their 1st next year as well.

KnoxTitan
All Rivers will do on the 2015 Titans is end up in the hospital. I'd rather stick with Mett and use the #2 to draft Williams. If Mett flames out, we can go get Rivers when he's a UFA next year and it won't cost us anything.
big2033
If we get Rivers, I'm going to be all Rivers is one of my fave QBs. I wish we were getting younger Rivers if this was the case though.

They're not giving up Rivers for that. If anything, it'd be 2 and our 1st next year for Rivers. They have him under 2 yrs of control although if they tag him, I can see Rivers retiring and moving back to Alabama to coach HS football.
freakingeek
Intriguing. It would really help to know what the coaching staff's true feelings are about Mett. If this is true a Rivers trade is not out of the question. The second overall pick has become even more valuable the closer we get to the draft. We're in a great position. Yep, Whiz and especially Webster want to keep thier jobs. Getting Rivers would give them the best chance to do so. It seems plausible to me.

They have to give up more to get our pick. It's more valuable than Rivers at his age.

It seems plausible to me. If that were the singular reason makes sense. Also, how long does Rivers stay? Does he stay long enough to be on this team until it's actually a contender. Or will we be getting Rivers to 7-9 or 8-8 or 6-10 for the next three years.
Mercalius
Rivers to the Titans would be huge, especially considering we'd likely get at least one first rounder out of it to boot. But I think these rumors, more than anything, need to make some folks reevaluate their stance on Mariota. I know contract situation plays into it, as well as a potential move of the franchise, but pretend it's a perfect world where Rivers is happy and locked up in a contract for the next 4 years. Who, in all honestly, would you trade straight up, quarterback to quarterback, for? Eli? Doubtful. Ben? Doubtful, but there's maybe a case. Peyton, highly doubtful. Flacco? Hell no. Matt Ryan? Not likely. Brady? Maybe, but doubtful. Luck? Almost certainly. Rodgers? Almost certainly. Russell Wilson? Eh, depends on the person you ask. There's maybe 3-4 quarterbacks in the league, tops, most teams would rather have over Rivers right now. I know that his contract situation does factor into a rumor like this, but what does that say about the Chargers view of Mariota? They'd be willingly going from a top 10% QB situation, league-wide, to a rookie who's never played a snap...in addition to maybe having to give up some picks. That, if anything, should make some folks reevaluate their views of Mariota.

So Rivers on the Titans will end up in the hospital but Mett won't? Mett is less mobile than Rivers and for damn sure doesn't have the toughness of Rivers.
