headhunter
Pass rushing is pass rushing. You can either do it or not no matter the alignment
dannynj
The Titans have the next great QB in their division in Luck. They need as many guys as they can get that have unique abilities to get up field and hit the QB. The bigger guys that can do that are a lot harder to find then the little guys. That can be done with scheme. If you can get a big guy that can beat single teams and force offenses to double team him, it creates opportunities for the players behind him and alongside him to go make a play on the QB or in the backfield. The Titans already have a guy like that in Casey. They have a chance to add another in Williams. I don't think LeBeau ever had that type of penetrating type talent with the Steelers in a 3-4. What he could do with it with Casey and Williams would be fun to see
Tex in a Can
Williams and Casey would make for a *monster* D-line. Casey has been double teamed a lot. Having both these guys on the line instantaneously improves Morgan & Orakpo's effectiveness as pass rushers. Tex
Justafan
Last year, they realistically had two threats to rush the passer. Casey, who was constantly double teamed and Morgan who caused pressure but only got 6.5 sacks. The rest were sporadic pass rushers at best. With Orakpo across from Morgan and Williams across from Casey..... You can't scheme those guys away. You can't double team Casey and Williams. Playing between those two guys, SLH will have easy match ups. He pretty consistently beats one on one. With enough pressure up front, EVERYONE looks better. Build the line, invest in pass rushers. YES, HELL YES, Williams is worth taking at #2. Then take another pass rusher at #33.
KnoxTitan
If you're not taking a QB, no one can impact the game more than a monster D-lineman. Williams and Casey as 2 parts of a 3-4 is nasty. WR's can be found all over the place. This is a pretty good draft for WRs. I wouldn't mind a Jaelen Strong at #33. Kirkster
This is pretty straight forward, we have to take Williams. SLH is gonna look like a pro bowler next these guys. A trade down would be nice but it has to be enough for us not to take Willams, would take a lot. Take Williams, and add a young pass rusher in round 4-6. Hope that Daquan Jones improves and gets some minutes and we will be good.
Mythos27
I just don't get how people can watch Williams and not just say "We have to take this guy". He can literally do everything you want and do it in a dominating fashion. He's the easiest scouting job anyone could ever do.
TTITAN
With Williams we get that extra pressure on ANY QB. The kind of pressure that makes it a lot more difficult for that QB to remain calm and take extra reads. Before the QB knows it his pocket is breached and he becomes extremely frantic instantly. Those few seconds shed off of his time in the pocket protected WILL amount to more sacks and interceptions. If Tennessee picks him that will happen. Simple as that. Tex in a Can
With Williams and Casey, just watch our secondary come to life with pass protection and interceptions. It's all connected. Now it's just making too much sense, which is why I worry we'll f! it up. Tex
titanruss
I just don't get how people can watch Williams and not just say "We have to take this guy". He can literally do everything you want and do it in a dominating fashion. He's the easiest scouting job anyone could ever do. because he looks very dominant in highlights but disappears and doesnt play to his ability at other times... he doesnt necessarily have the explosions you want off the line there either. he's got the ability to be amazing... yes. HOF quality good. But if he isnt a perfect fit and doesnt always play his hardest every single snap... then you can see why he isnt thought of as the perfect pick. i wouldnt mind him. i dont think he's a scheme fit... and i think his value is waaaaay below what we could possibly get with extra picks in a trade. The value of (possibly) 5 picks in the first 2 rounds vs 1 high pick is not even close IMO... especially when he isnt a perfect fit. ...now, if he played to his athletic ability every play and ran a 4.7 i dont think anyone would question the fit as much.... but yeah, thats the reason everyone doesnt agree with ya. OzTitan
My only concern with Williams is the fact he'll be a 3-4 DE in this defense. It's not something you typically see drafted 2nd overall. But that's only a concern in principle - there are obviously elite 3-4 DEs out there, or have been in recent years, so when an elite rookie prospect comes along that can be that, draft position isn't necessarily very important. Plus, I think 3-4s have evolved a little bit in recent years to treat their DL with a bit more creativity than just bodies to let the LBs run free. wiscotitansfan
Williams will take a double team nearly 100% of the time, this is coming from someone who will essentially make the OLB's unblocked. A NT who takes up double teams every play is different because you can slide linemen protection over from either side to compensate and can still have a great blocker on the pass rushing LB. If the defense wants they can stack up the best players on one side and the offense would absolutely have to bring extra protection over to that side from someone other than a linemen. Addition: This is why I wanted Pot Roast so bad, he is big enough where that is all we need. We just need the NT to take up space and the ILBs can take care of tackling the RBs.
