Btowner
Marvin Lewis is the 20th highest paid coach in the NFL at $4.5M. I could see firing him last year or the previous year. But to do it this year with the injuries would be tough. I think his contract runs through 2015. So I wouldn't be surprise if Mike Brown fires him next year instead of giving him a new contract and hire a new coach for less money. That's the way they do things in the Jungle. Nash
Fall apart how exactly? The last time the Bungles won a postseason game was against the Houston Oilers and that was 25 years ago. What do they have to lose here? For you younger bloggers, I was at that game and just about froze my butt off, even wearing ski gear ..the oilers scored early on a breakaway touchdown run , and I might have been the only one cheering in the whole stadium.. A guy 2 rows in front of me showed a knife .. Needless to say I remained quiet the rest of that game
Btowner
I say no. He gets a pass with all the injuries this year. Not to mention they've made the playoffs 6 times in 12 years under him. Six times in 12 years and playing in one of the tougher divisions in football. According to PFT: "Consider this — in the 12 seasons Lewis has been the head coach, the Bengals have one last-place finish in the AFC North, which has generated three Super Bowl winners in the past decade. Before Lewis, the Bengals finished dead last seven times in 14 years. (In the three seasons the AFC North had six teams, the Bengals finished in fifth place twice and sixth place one.)" MamlngEnvy
How lucky would the coach they'd hire to replace him be ..
Nash
The Bengals have been able to bring in talent by taking risks that other team likely would not take.. i.e. Adam Jones,Carlos Dunlap, Vontaze Burfect, the deceased Chris Henry, Ray Maulaga, even Jeremy Hill, .. just to name a few.. I'm thinking that Lewis was able to control these players in a way that perhaps other coaches might not be able to..so this might not be a picnic for a new coach.. Oiler FANatic
I was at that game and just about froze my butt off.... A guy 2 rows in front of me showed a knife .. Needless to say I remained quiet the rest of that game That's the way they do things in the Jungle. I remember that game, it seemed reminiscent of many Bungles/Oilers games in previous years when Glanville was our coach. Speaking of mediocre coaches, Cincinnati has had exactly 3 ties since joining the AFL/NFL in 1968. 2 of those 3 ties occurred when Marvin Lewis was their head coach. ChesterCopperpot1
He should be fired. Not sure if he will, though.
Number9
What was Dalton supposed to do without his two best WRs, his two starting TEs, and his pro bowl caliber LT? Unfortunately for me, I did not get to see the game. His stats just screamed out at me. Why didn't you explain to people that Marvin Lewis's team had it's two starting TEs and it's pro bowl caliber LT missing? Marvin could have used your help. With the kind of character guys they have, this team would fall apart without him. The league better hope he doesn't get Jameis Winston in the second round. After one bad defensive drive in the Colts game, Pacman was having a kind of pushy/yelling altercation with a defensive teammate. Marvin Lewis got right in pacman's face, squared him up, and Pacman promptly quieted down in seconds. Marvin Lewis has a way with trouble makers; so yes, a new coach would be in for a tough roster to handle.
scine09
Can you imagine Rex with THAT roster? Jesus Christ! Speaking of overrated. When did Rex Ryan all of the sudden become a great coach? He took over that team and had playoff talent as the team had gone 10-6 and 9-7 in 2 of the 3 seasons before he got there and promptly ran them into the ground as he was able to bring in his own players.
