IsntLifeFunny
I agree. That is one area that really impressed me with Luck and his ability to feel the pocket and still find guys down field and he is bigger and stronger than expected. All areas Locker needs to improve in to step up to the next level. Locker doesn't utilize his arm, size, strength and speed as well as he should. If I was going to pick a guy to be the next great QB at this point it would be Kaep. He has all the tools. Size, strength, speed, pocket awareness and throws darts that are accurate. Plus he is playing for a great HC. IMO he is light years ahead of Locker and I really wish we had been smart enough to draft him. This team could have drafted Watt and then traded up in the 2nd like they did this year and grabbed Kaep. Then IMO we would be on the cusp of being the team we want to be. With Palmer as the OC, I seriously doubt Kaep would be half the player he is now under Harbaugh.
IsntLifeFunny
Your QB has to avoid injuries at all costs, it was a mistake to put himself in harms way It was the kid's first start. Cut him a little slack. I'm sure he was amped up and was unwilling to give up a game clinching pic 6. I agree, but I don't fault Locker for that injury. The one against Houston, on the other hand, has me concerned about his pre-snap reads. edit: typing on cell blows.

oldschool
If sitting Locker for a year wasn't beneficial then do we have to give him 5 years to see if he can hack it? He should have started from day one and taken all the reps. He couldn't have been more mishandled than he has been.
nine
If sitting Locker for a year wasn't beneficial then do we have to give him 5 years to see if he can hack it? He should have started from day one and taken all the reps. He couldn't have been more mishandled than he has been. When Locker was drafted, pretty much everyone agreed that he was quite raw, needed a lot of polishing, and would likely be a 2-3 year project. And here we are. To his credit, Jake showed more improvement his first few months than anyone would have expected (especially considering the whole lockout situation)...but when the season opened, he was still a long way from "ready". I think most of us will agree that Jake has been developed in a situation that falls somewhere between dysfunctional and a total cluster. But personally, I think making him the starter from day one would have been an even bigger mistake.
IowaOiler
While I would have liked to see Jake start after Hass got hurt and it was obvious Jake was out-playing him, there is no way he should have started day 1. Obviously, Palmer was the wrong man for the job, but hindsight is always 20/20, and the shelves were pretty bare regarding OCs after Fisher was finally shown the door. If Locker continues to struggle this year, with all the new weapons and his health, the issue won't be whether he should have started day 1, but that he was the wrong pick for QB. oldschool
Nine, you don't draft a guy 8th overall and then sit him for 3 years anymore. Times have changed. look at how Shanny handled Griffin. At the first post draft press conference Shanny said Griffin is the starter and will get all starter reps from the first OTA on. The same held true for Luck, Newton, and Dalton to name a few. If the Titans wanted to bring him along slowly they shouldn't have drafted him that high.

freakingeek
This is just as asinine as already saying he'll be better than the Manning's, just on the opposite end of the spectrum. All we have is one year of Luck to compare but take a look at the stats. (I used Eli's second season because it was his first full season.) Look at the stats and then tell me why it's "asinine" to think Luck could potentially be better than either Manning. (which is what I said) Eli 16 games 294/557 52.8 comp.% 3762 yards 24 TDs 17 INTs 4.3 TD% 3.1 INT% 75.9 QBR Peyton 16 games 326/575 56.7 comp % 3739 yards 26 TDs 28 INTs 4.5 TD% 4.9 INT% 71.2 QBR A. Luck 16 games 339/627 54.1 comp.% 4374 yards 23 TDs 18 INTs 3.7 TD% 2.9 INT% 76.5 QBR
OILERMAN
The real comparison might be Locker vs Fitzpatrik, what if Fitz is way better in camp and preseason?
freakingeek
The real comparison might be Locker vs Fitzpatrik, what if Fitz is way better in camp and preseason? I don't believe Munch would bump Locker when the real games begin unless he plays horribly in preseason, which I doubt will happen.
pat
Trying to make up for your wrong fact. Locker was trying to stop a touchdown, not make up for anything. He was not dismantled. He was pretty impressive for a first start considering he had no Kenny Britt and CJ ran for less than 1 YPC. Thanks for the correction. Rather than checking down for a first down, Locker threw a hospital pass that knocked his #1 receiver out of the game, then on the return of the fumble knocked himself out of the game. Veteran move from the second year player. Really got the defense on their heels and helped his team come back from behind.
