The SEC was 'dominate' when talking heads at ESPN chose the champ. I was in GA when southerners were begging for a playoff, because they knew it would just further prove the SEC is the best....and then when the playoff started, the championship didn't even have an SEC team in it. NIL has been around for several years now and what has the SEC accomplished? Even the talking heads are acknowledging the SEC lost it's edge when all schools could pay their players. I don't think the population moving is going to have a major impact on NIL...at least not in the short term. As far as Vandy or Florida being top colleges, I don't disagree...but this conversation started with a midwest vs. the south argument. SEC schools, especially ones like Vandy and FL, encompass far more students than just those from their states or even the south. Public education in the south has been a running joke nation-wide for generations, and it's not without merit. I don't subscribe the the accent making someone dumb, and I've met some extremely intelligent southerners...but ignoring the educational issues has done exactly nothing to fix them.

I was born in Houston, grew up in Iowa, spent 12 years in Georgia, and am now back in Iowa. I agree every area has some annoying traits, and having lived in the south I'm more used to southern antics than most I live around....so I'd have to say the northeast in the most annoying. From the accent to the illogical ego. FIFY. I don't really think of the south much outside of football season when idiot SEC homers talk about how great their teams are. It's been fun watching the B1G take belt to ass the last several years now that everyone can pay players. I have no idea what the team is planning. There does seem to be a lot of smoke around us taking Love, but no idea if that's legit or just media-made speculation. As I've said before, I trust Borgo so if he takes Love, then I'll be supportive. I'm not going to hope for his failure just so I can be correct. I just think drafting a RB at #4 is waste of resources. If we traded back and could grab another top 100 pick or two, and then took love around 10-15, then ok.

Fuck that....we should be paying our RBs at least as much as the top QBs in the league. Let's see if we can get the total number up around $50 million/year. Then we can really dictate to defenses!!

What we really need to do is load up on RBs. Keep Pollard and Spears, draft Love, and then sign a FA or two. Then we can sporadically run all of them and really dictate to the defense. Might as well trade Cam too for future picks so we can draft more RBs!

People do that all the time though. The goal is to win the SB...if we are just bringing in a player to be 'great' we end up with the CJ2K Jeff Fisher situation where we are more concerned with obtaining stats than winning games. I don't want to ever see that again.

Lol...just because things are simple, doesn't mean they are wrong or not worth discussing...unless, of course, they can't be refuted, which is clearly the case here. As far as dictating the defense, you think Love is going to come in a totally change the way defenses look at us? I guess if that's your thought based on watching him play, then fair enough. I suspect that's what the plan was for Jeanty last year for LV, and now they have the #1 overall. The fact is, there are few RBs that dictate anything to a defense, and even those that do, have little success. The only back that you might argue does that and has had success is Barkley, and that was alongside an amazing defense, and with receivers that could make me look like a decent QB. Henry obviously dictated a lot and has yet to win shit. I don't see Love being either of those guys, but if you do, then fine.

Those players stand out to you because they play important positions but never won it all. There are a ton of great RBs that not only haven't won it all, but failed to really move the needle on the teams overall success...and that is my point. So what would your expectations be? You think he's going to average over 4.5/carry and rush for 1500 yards? Please see above....how exactly are his touches going to significantly improve upon Pollard? I'm not saying he wouldn't be slightly better, but for a #4 pick, you'd want to see significant improvements.

I don't subscribe to the idea that 'taking the pressure off of Cam' means we are drafting Love. #1, taking the pressure off would mean more easy reads on conflicted downs...something good OC's do across the league, but the Titans have struggled to do. #2, better protection up front combined with better hands in the secondary would do a ton to 'take the pressure off of Cam.' #3, I don't see how drafting Love to run the ball 25 times/game does anything more to take the pressure off than having Pollard do it. How much more are you expecting from Love than what Pollard provided last year? I do think signs are pointing toward Love at #4 right now, and I will trust in Borgo if that's the decision he makes. I am not a fan of it, obviously, and I don't see it moving the needle on anything, which is what a top 5 pick should do. If we trade back and take him, then fine.

What did he win? Arguably the best RB of all time and led the Lions to what? Ok, so what intangibles are you expecting from the RB in today's NFL?

It's overstated at times, but when you can get similar production from guys drafted later, positional value does matter. If we traded down and picked him outside the top 5-10, ok. But as @scine09 says below, drafting a RB at #4 means your giving him the ball a ton. That shouldn't happen a year after drafting your QB since he should be throwing it a lot. Bingo.

I trust Borgo as of right now, so if that's the pick he makes, then I'll be all in. Personally, I think a pick as high as 4 should be spent on a premium position unless it's an absolute can't miss prospect. RB or a RB/WR hybrid isn't a premium position, and I don't see Love as a can't miss prospect. I did just do a mock draft where I traded down and Love was available at 13, so I took him. Personally, and it pains me to say this, but Emmett Johnson from NE can be had much later in the draft, and I think he'll be good. Maybe not as good as Love, but a good back that you wouldn't have to spend a top 5 pick on.
