Stranger
There was nothing wrong with this. What if it was a playoff game and it caused the Bucs to get the win? If you want to talk about the spirit of the game then teams need to stop a lot of things like trying to get the defense on having 12 men on the field when a player is clearly trying to leave the field of play. It's taking advantage of the rules and abusing the spirit of the game.

I agree that's about the biggest bitch move i've seen the past few years. Especially when they throw the challenge flag and have to go to replay to see if the defender running off gets over the boundary before the ball is snapped. Like the guy running off the field will have ANY influence on the play involved.
TitansWycheck89
I heart Schiano. He was great at Rutgers.
StephenIsLegend
Coughlin is just a bitch. Plain and simple.
freakingeek
Coughlin is so wrong here it's not even funny. They were only up by 7 with time left on the clock. Protect the football. Protect your QB. Quit yer bitchin. It would be funny though if some team in the future playing the Bucs go into the victory formation and their O-line just blows up the defensive lineman knocking them on their asses. Typically neither team is really ready for the opposing team to put any real effort into hitting somebody in those situations. Why not just hand the ball off to the RB and have him go down quickly if you're afraid of getting the QB hurt in a victory formation? Until there is no time on the clock, play to the whistle. Alcibiades
I think Schiano is in the right here. You try to force that fumble. If the Giants were up by 10 pts. or more....the sporting thing is to allow them to take a knee. But within a TD? hell yes, you go after the ball! And because the Giants weren't expecting it, it almost worked! Eli fell down. If he lets go.....well....game on!

I agree that the V formation is the safetest but you have to play until the whistle blows. I agree there is no unwritten rule.
Stan
YOu mean Tampa twice forced not Rutgers. Simple mistake
qb19
YOu mean Tampa twice forced not Rutgers. Simple mistake The title was pasted from the article on Pro Football Talk. But Schiano used to be the head coach at Rutgers prior to Tampa Bay. At Rutgers, apparently they rush the V formation regularly. So I don't think "Rutgers" was in error. Thanks! ManningEnvy
Give me a fn break. Everybody should know damn well it's an unwritten rule in the NFL. Just like Tom Jackson was saying last night, the week before when they were playing Carolina they took a knee three times to run the clock out. Carolina didn't pull that bush league shit. HE WILL NEVER TRY IT AGAIN! Take that to the bank.
TampaTitan
Bump. Because the Bucs crashed the V formation again today against Dallas. I love it!
