Denali Posted July 1, 2012 Report Share Posted July 1, 2012 I do not think the F.O. was good this offseason. - They didn't do enough to address the DL's lack of pass rush ability (getting Wimbley was OK but we need more). - Letting Finny go was bad - real bad. - They did not find a replacement for Amano. They brought in some Centers but they weren't good enough and we came out of it with nothing. Either we were truly trying to find a replacement for Amano, in which case we failed completely, or we were playing JF style head games with Amano, which in that case was a fucking ridiculous waste of F.O. resources because those sort of games never work well. - If we include Bud Adams as part of the F.O., then that whole Peyton Manning debacle is included as well and makes the F.O. offseason an epic failure. - Signing Hawk was good. - I am neutral on the signing of Griff and Babs. - Didn't like letting Jones go. - Not sure if the OP wants the draft to be considered as part of the F.O. evaluation, but I thought this year's draft was outstanding. - Signing Hutch was OK but I would rather have seen the F.O. address the Center situation instead. All in all, I thought the F.O. handling of free agency was poor (partly compromised by the Peyton Manning debacle) and the draft was great. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

So losing Jones was, as stated above, not a big deal. Losing Finny was of course bad, but not that bad. He's not an elite CB like so many think he is, he'd rather be known as a dirty player than a great one. Klug was a good compliment to pair with Jones, last I checked the Titans play 2 DTs on their DL and don't have another pass rusher after Klug. The Titans obviously knew they needed to address the pass rush which is why they were very likely targeting Mario Williams. Can't blame Webster and Co. for having to participate in the Manning dog and pony show. Wimbley was the best rusher available at that point. Nothing 2nd tier about him Didn't say he was a 2nd tier nickel, but on the outside at CB there's no way he should be considered even close to being the best. If he went to Philly with Asomugha and DRC, he'd be a perfect fit there. But when Finny plays on the outside, there's definitely a noticeable drop-off. OILERMAN Posted July 2, 2012 Report Share Posted July 2, 2012 Finnegan is just fine on the outside but considering teams are in the nickel 70% of the time he's in the slot almost all of the time anyway. Verner is no where close to Finnegan in the nickel and there is also a big question mark on who is going to play outside when Verner is in the nickel. He's a very good outside CB and an elite nickelback. If the secondary flops the front office will have to answer for it, among other questionable decisions while being 20 mill under the cap. Verner is smart sure-tackler, he's gotten a lot better since last playing nickle. Jones did little at DE last year and couldn't stay availible at DT, he was hurt too often. The DT class this year was deep so that also had somthing to do with letting Jones walk. As much as I joke about Griffin, there were no better players for us, so keeping him was probably for the better. If he plays with a clear head he's a top 5 FS. Wimbley was a cap casualty, he was never really out there for anyone to target, he came around just after we learned Peyton chose Denver. Great timing for us.
