The 2027 draft class looks like it could be completely absurd with all the EDGE and WR talent. Part of the reason I am perfectly fine trading down this year for more 2027 draft capital. AussieTitanFan08
If this actually happened Titans fans would riot and it continues the ridiculous trend of draft media giving the Titans a S with a top 5 pick. Also crazy that Sikkema didn't even consider the possibility that the team with the worst EDGE group in the league might actually consider taking an EDGE. socaltitan
The only negative about Downs is the position he plays. He's a stud. It could be worse.

Brinker/Borgonzi have been pretty adamant about using premium draft capital on premium positions unfortunately for Downs he doesn't play a premium position. socaltitan
I wouldn't expect us to draft him, but this is a potential Ed Reed/Polamalu level guy. It could be worse.

Downs is an elite S prospect unfortunately for him we have seen what the league feels about that position when a guy like Kyle Hamilton who was also a top end S prospect was drafted 14th. We both know as you have also said the Titans are not taking a S if they ended up with the 3rd pick and that isn't a slight on Downs just a statement on positional value. The big EARLY positive regards this draft class is there looks to be 3 EDGE guys in Parker/Bain Jr/Faulk (no particular order) that seem to be on the right track to be worthy of top 15 picks. Nash
Yes, any of those 3 would be a big help on defense.. I like the Auburn player a lot b/c of his size and quickness.. he can drive a tackle back and when he gets him off balance he runs on past.. a lot like Max Crosby to me
titansfan
If Josh Hoover continues to play like he did tonight, I could see some 1st round talk for him by season's end Edited September 2 by titansfan

You wouldn't put Dani Dennis-Sutton in the top 15? Watch him just Mike Tyson the ball away from the ball carrier.

Could certainly end up in the top 15 if he continues to play well on what should be a Penn St team that goes fairly deep in the CFB season.

Outside of Bain he looked like the most dominant edge of week 1. David Bailey is another one. Unless the Titans have an unusually successful season I don't see how they get out of the 1st round without a blue chip edge. There's still a whole season left to play obviously, but there's a lot of talent to be excited for. And even if they wound up taking someone like Caleb Downs high (not at 3... probably won't be picking anywhere near that high) there are still some good edge guys later that might be good value in the early 2nd. LT Overton, Joshua Josephs. Tyreak Sapp, or even R Mason Thomas if he balls out.

I think it's as simple as national media not being as locked in to our true draft needs at this stage of the season. Their thought process is likely as simple as, "They drafted EDGE in round 2 last year so they probably won't draft EDGE in round 1 this year." OnsideKick
Two-way players are all the rage in college football. While primarily a rangy, scheme versatile and physical LB for the Utes, @Utah_Football 's Lander Barton showed off the receiving skills vs UCLA. Don't think it'll be his last offensive TD of the year! Edited September 2 by OnsideKick
