Why?  It does leave things open for additional seasons if they come up with interesting plot points.

If they do additional seasons to close the gap that's fantastic.

I was more saying it's disappointing to hear there will be a gap if they don't.

There’s 150 years between the Dance of the Dragons that this show is about and Robert’s Rebellion that led up to the original books/show. There can’t help but be a gap.

Couldn't they close the gap with more shows/seasons?  Or is there a gap in the books?

It’s 150 years. How many seasons do you expect it would take to fill that gap?

I am unclear exactly how far they will go in this show past the end of the war. Without giving away spoilers, lots of things happen after the actual fighting ends and I have no idea where the endpoint is for the show. But they aren’t going to just skim through 7 generations of Targaryens and a dozen rulers.

They would potentially just make some other shows. Dunk & Egg, which we know is coming, will cover some time after the Blackfyre Rebellion in random settings across Westeros. And the Blackfyres would also potentially be something they could cover in a show. Robert’s Rebellion could be a show, though we all know how it ends. But I’m not really sure there is much else engrossing enough for a TV series to fit between HoD and GoT.

We know they are developing a series based on Aegon’s Conquest. And another on the voyages of Corlys Velaryon. And another set 1000 earlier about Nymeria. And another from far before that set on another continent entirely.

I have no idea how many seasons that would take but I would think there would be several periods of time they could skim over due to nothing really significant happening.
