of all the topics discussed on this board, i was a bit surprised that there wasn't a thread on Religion.

Feel free to cast a vote in the poll, the results are private.

if you feel the call to discuss this topic, I will discuss with you.

make sure that if you are going to make a claim to back it up with some form of support of evidence and epistemology.

have a feeling this might take awhile to get any traction, if it ever does.
it's a pretty important topic. it's got a bit more weight than some other off-topic content.

Religion is a once upon a time topic of discussion that has died around here mostly due to the fact that, from my perspective, most of the board regulars are fairly non-religious folk, if not outright atheists. Or at most see religion and spirituality in some basic utilitarian kind of light. I'd be surprised if very many on here actually believed in god, so to speak.

Btw... you really should adjust the poll options to be non-multiple choice. Kinda hard to be an atheist when you believe Allah is telling you to strap on a suicide vest...  :cj2k:

Well we have have plenty of debates over religion over the years. Largely it’s about whether Jesus was real. I'd suggest doing a search of the forum for the word "Tacitus" or "Josephus" and just read any thread that comes up. It's all in there.

obviously some modes of thought are incompatible.
however, there are possible combos.
for instance, a person could be both religious and a skeptic
an attempt to group some of these together could've been a bit too inclusive, like the Eastern Religions but i figured there weren't too many of that group anyway.
theoretically, someone could be a scientologist and a deist or secular
someone might be a Buddhist and also Atheist
everyone on this list is agnostic, i could've separated the Secular but I find most Secular / Humanist are generally also agnostic atheist

does it really matter if it's multiple choice ? it doesn't mean you have to select multiples but can if it applies

noted.
discussion really begins much earlier than that.
there's a lot to sift through before either are relevant. by the time theists get there, they've run out of better options.
but i'll take a peek

the search returns more results for the topic by using other terms.
i guess i'll let this sit for a bit, and look into pre-existing threads with slightly different yet relevant context

so, as far as I could tell, a lot of the good discussion in re: to the topic were hidden in some obscure threads.
that's why search results were slim. in addition to some of the threads being almost a decade old.
so much i could respond to but i'm not sure about bumping threads where the last post was in 2012.
Cinnammon had one that was active last year but it appears to have spiraled into a debate on birthing rights.

i did however, determine who my colleagues and opponents would be in a debate setting

I'm interested in these topics, but am far more interested in someone who is devout and patient  to answer questions rather than to go off the handle.

Cyrus?
