Romney doesn't get it. Does he really think Larry Hogan has a future at the national level??? To me, Tom Cotton doesn’t belong in the conversation with Sasse and Hogan. Cotton is more like Hawley and Cruz than those two.

rns90
I still don't get why some of these GOPers running in 2024 don't convict. It takes Trump out of the equation entirely.

The grounds to call it unconstitutional when nearly all legal scholars agree it is constitutional makes no sense. Cowards, all of them. McConnell put it out there he wanted to move on from Trump and the base fought back which gave cover to the Senators who may have voted to convict. Pretty clear they just want to sweep this under the rug and make it go away. Now the GOP will definitely splinter. Fuck them. We'll take suburban and college educated voters who want to cross the line. Now the dems just need to get shit done.
TitansFan777
As usual, the GOP and anyone who supports it at this point, is an apologist to domestic terrorism and arguably an enemy to this country.
Titans279
So are we still supposed to have respect for McConnell's bravery?

Hah - McConnell's back on the shitlist. Trying to protect his caucus from the rabid mob of Trumpsters that make up the majority of that party. That's ok though, we'll take the continued bleeding of GOP registered voters.

The divide you're talking about is between 10 in the house, 5 in the Senate, and 11% of Republican voters. Even then those 15 politicians are still going to support Republicans when it comes down to it. The idea of a real split seems overblown. The Republicans are mostly united around their new direction. luvyablue256
Sounds to me like Dems have 5 GOP senators they need to target to switch parties...

Thats enough to severely diminish the power of the GOP. Its definitely not anywhere near 50/50. There was hope right after Jan 6th that the GOP would excise the extremists and minimize the Trump base. Thats not going to happen to now. Steve Schmidt's post on jan 5th is even more telling now. The GOP has become a fascist party beholden to one man rather than a set of ideals.
