Bob Woodward: Trump's aides stole his papers 'to protect the country'

Just in time for the mid-terms, the most comprehensive book to date detailing Trump's White House

President Donald Trump's closest aides have taken extraordinary measures in the White House to try to stop what they saw as his most dangerous impulses, going so far as to swipe and hide papers from his desk so he wouldn't sign them, according to a new book from legendary journalist Bob Woodward.

Woodward's 448-page book, "Fear: Trump in the White House," provides an unprecedented inside-the-room look through the eyes of the President's inner circle. From the Oval Office to the Situation Room to the White House residence, Woodward uses confidential background interviews to illustrate how some of the President's top advisers view him as a danger to national security and have sought to circumvent the commander in chief.

Many of the feuds and daily clashes have been well documented, but the picture painted by Trump's confidants, senior staff and Cabinet officials reveal that many of them see an even more alarming situation — worse than previously known or understood. Woodward offers a devastating portrait of a dysfunctional Trump White House, detailing how senior aides — both current and former Trump administration officials — grew exasperated with the President and increasingly worried about his erratic behavior, ignorance and penchant for lying.

Chief of staff John Kelly describes Trump as an "idiot" and "unhinged," Woodward reports. Defense Secretary James Mattis describes Trump as having the understanding of "a fifth or sixth grader." And Trump's former personal lawyer John Dowd describes the President as "a fucking liar," telling Trump he would end up in an "orange jump suit" if he testified to special counsel Robert Mueller.

"He's an idiot. It's pointless to try to convince him of anything. He's gone off the rails. We're in crazytown," Kelly is quoted as saying at a staff meeting in his office. "I don't even know why any of us are here. This is the worst job I've ever had."

Holy shit that article goes on and on, and gets worse and worse.  Woodward is no scrub hack so this cannot be hand waved away as butthurt paybacks or spurious innuendo.  Let's see what this latest development to the news cycle does to deter the faithful, but they really need to re-consider what supporting this president means at this point.  He's thoroughly contemptible and plainly unfit for office.  period.

Trump Lawyers Staged Session to Show Trump Would Lie

September 4, 2018 at 11:32 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 44 Comments

Bob Woodward’s forthcoming book, Fear: Trump in the White House, describes how John Dowd “was convinced that President Trump would commit perjury if he talked to special counsel Robert Mueller. So, on Jan. 27, the president’s then-personal attorney staged a practice session to try to make his point,” the Washington Post reports.

“In the White House residence, Dowd peppered Trump with questions about the Russia investigation, provoking stumbles, contradictions and lies until the president eventually lost his cool.”

Trump eventually erupted: “This thing’s a goddamn hoax. I don’t really want to testify.”

How awesome would it be if they got him to testify live on camera?

Is anyone really surprised at any of this?  I'm just glad that some of the senior aides had the good sense to do things for the well being of our country.

Not surprised at all.  You can watch the news and figure this stuff out.....unless you are in denial.

We'll need a timestamp Trump's opinion -- I think it's about to change.  Good thing Woodward recorded the call.

btw - how fucking stupid and exposed do the FoxNews cronies look right now?

Woodward told Trump that he reached out to roughly a half-dozen staffers inquiring about an interview with the president, including White House counselor Kellyanne Conway and deputy press secretary Raj Shah.

Trump, who initiated the phone call, told Woodward that he did not hear about the requests. Conway is featured on the phone call, telling Woodward she relayed his request to others in the administration, without elaborating on who the individuals were.

“It’s really too bad, because nobody told me about it, and I would’ve loved to have spoken to you,” Trump said. “You know I’m very open to you. I think you’ve always been fair.”

Or not brainwashed into thinking that all the news is #FAKE

Sadly, there is still a butt load of those that believe such.  They just think that I am brainwashed.  Go figure.

LOFL.  Your fearless leader is an idiot who breaks through the bureaucratic process, like some sort of WonderTard superhero!!

The White House added in the statement that Woodward's book "is nothing more than fabricated stories, many by former disgruntled employees, told to make the President look bad."

"While it is not always pretty, and rare that the press actually covers it, President Trump has broken through the bureaucratic process to deliver unprecedented successes for the American people," press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement. "Sometimes it is unconventional, but he always gets results. Democrats and their allies in the media understand the President’s policies are working and with success like this, no one can beat him in 2020 – not even close.”

“Woodward has repeatedly scolded the media for its unfairness to Trump, and expressed skepticism about the Russia investigation. Another reporter who did the same thing, before proceeding to publish a book stuffed with harrowing inside tidbits about Trump’s dysfunction, is Michael Wolff. Perhaps both of them were shrewdly planting favorable commentary in order to warm up potential sources. Wolff’s book, and its too-amazing-to-be-real anecdotes, was met with a fair amount of skepticism from the mainstream media. The additional support from Woodward seems to confirm its essential thrust, if not every detail.”

“However dumb and crazy you might think Trump is, the reality always turns out to be even worse.”
