TitanicoNFLriotFAN
My take is that LaFleur's playbook probably could consider: Taylor/Sharpe become Walker's partner for slant passes. Matthews and DAVIS (Specially) for middle/long passes. Taking some responsibilities off Walker's shoulders, not only will make things less predictable but more dimensional. Or at least is safe to think that.
OILERMAN
What happened on the rookie type horrible INT, the pass a mile over the WRs head and the two times Maroita bailed from the pocket?

imemtitan
The interception was a terrible play, the kind of mistake he was making his rookie year that I thought he put behind him. Maybe he took a shot because it was preseason, if he continues to do that in the regular season it definitely warrants criticism. The overthrow is whatever, Roethlisberger overthrew a number of passes as well, it happens and it will happen again no QB is perfect. The bailing from the pocket I'd need to see again, I do agree he does have issues with pocket presence and isn't a natural like Wilson when it comes to feeling pressure and running or moving and making a play. It's an area he can definitely improve in and my hope is that with time to get comfortable in an offensive system he will get there. As I mentioned yesterday when he trusts his reads he can be a great pocket passer, when he doesn't, for whatever reason, he looks skittish, hopefully with time and experience he trusts them more. We shouldn't just dismiss things or look for answers we desire. I'm very much wanting the Titans to do well and Mariota too, but we can't just say other qb's do the same thing to overlook the bad throws. The context is them happening in the same half. When a wr is as open as Davis was, the QB is supposed to put the ball on him. The ball should have had more zip on it. It needs to get to and pass the receiver. Right cut, wrong cut the pass should go through the receiver. It's one of his catchable ball problems. When they get to the target area, they are to easy for D's to catch. Then he airmailed the ball over CD. One in the dirt, one in the clouds. Another keeper, he had two tough throws to CD. They weren't easy, but they also were not hard NFL completions if he places the ball outside. He hits Tarjae right on the numbers. He made that beautiful throw to Williams in the first ps game. It's starting to look like pressure. There's a lot of expectation built up about Corey Davis. He could possibly be an elite NFL WR. Just in this ps game, he's clearly has ability to get open and we believe he could do a lot of damage with the ball in his hands. Mariota is choking when it comes to throwing him the ball. It has to stop.

I'm not trying to go overboard with this, but if you remember I said two weeks ago "the throw to Williams was one of the best of the week" I love seeing Tarjae come back and look like a vet. He can be a great piece for this offense, but we need our Julio/OBJ to get the ball. If we have a wr who can get 100+ yards in any game, we are off to the races. Right now, there seems some problem with the MM to CD connection.

And here is the most disturbing thing: for all of his pics, he was under pressure exactly ZERO times. That's right. Zero. Zilch. They were all either badly thrown balls or bad reads. Many balls were simply overthrown, and for the others, he had absolutely no idea what the defenders around the receivers were doing or where they were heading. Atrocious. Sorry, homers. There is no other word for it. Yet he had one of the best QB ratings in the league while under duress. Go figure.

I think he depends too much on throwing to s spot and has trouble improvising. That's why he and Delaney have good chemistry and him and Davis not so much. Even though Davis shortened his route to get open, MM should have have no trouble hitting him. The dude was wide open.

pat
Am on board with the Mariota criticisms, with the caveat that there's a very very sharp fall off from the best QB in the league and an average QB. Was more thinking about Vrabel. Am glad he's not sugar coating Mariota's performance, and am hopeful that the issues will get corrected.
