I know we say it every year, but I really feel this is the year we go after that developmental, mid-round QB.

But as usual, there are always so many major circumstances on why that won't be the case... This year is completely new coaching, who wants to waste time on that guy when they will need to heavily invest in Mariota and his new coach.

Or if they don't do either it's still a good free agency.  And if they sign Suh it gets better.  And Gabbert makes little difference either way.  Like the other backup QB's, if he has to play for an extended period of time they're screwed.

Gabbert did beat us...

Yeah.  He did shred the Titans defense to the tune of 12 points.

I thought he looked pretty decent in that game.  Look, he's a backup so he isn't going to be that good.  But, at least he's been winning games for the last few years unlike Cassel.

Earlier in the off-season, I listed Gabbert as one of the free agents I felt would be a great fit for the Titans, while also coming at a cheap price. According to Spotrac, Gabbert counted just $895,000 against the cap in 2017 for the Arizona Cardinals. Considering that we’re in the second or third wave of free agency, it’s likely GM Jon Robinson could lure in the former Mizzou Tiger to a multi-year deal at a very team-friendly cap number.

It’s no secret Marcus Mariota has yet to start all 16 games of a regular season. Having that signal caller that you can rely on to fill in and keep the rhythm of the offense going is invaluable.

Both Mariota and Gabbert possess solid accuracy in short to intermediate routes, which is only enhanced by their lightning quick releases. While he may not be half the athlete that Mariota is, Gabbert has some wheels of his own.

Stepping in for an injured Carson Palmer last season, Gabbert was able to will an unmotivated Cardinals team, with wins against two playoff teams in the Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars. With Larry Fitzgerald as his only formidable weapon, the former top ten pick was able to toss for over 1,000 yards and six touchdowns.

Not all i talk about my friend. Yesterday i was actually on twitter with Kevin Byard our safety and he retweeted and liked a post of mine in regards to his run in with Deion Sanders yesterday. Sanders was trying to play down any significance Byard had as a player and thats when i posted that Byard had 5 picks in 2 games something that has been done only one other time in the past thirty years and that player was not Deion Sanders. Byard also retweeted that fact right back at Sanders so he could grasp the historical significance due to Sanders arrogance toward Byard.

I recently did a topic looking back at the first 20 years of Titans football in Tennessee. 2018 is actually the 20th year and what i did was went back and got the win/loss record overall of all NFL teams over the last 19 years and the Titans were 13th overall in wins three wins shy of being in the top ten with 155 wins,Dallas was 10th overall with 158 wins,Vikings are 11th with 157 wins,Giants are 12th with 156 wins. The Titans have a chance to be in the top ten overall in wins in their first 20 seasons if they have a good season in 2018.

Anything to do with stats, records, figures i love. I'm into many topics here but lately backup QB has been emphasised especially when you consider the most recent Super Bowl winner won with a backup QB. With a good team behind him a decent backup QB has a chance to keep a team afloat while the starter tries to get back healthy. Foles proved that .

The narrative that if the starter goes down you are done is not true especially if your QB is just gonna be out two or three games as we see clearly below.

Over the last three seasons......nearly all these backups had winning records or won some games. 16 backup QB's were .500 or better and won one or more games over the last 3 years.

2017--Nick Foles was 2-1 last season,Drew Stanton was 3-1 last season,Ryan Fitzpatrick was 2-1 last season,Case Keenum was 11-3 (Our very own backup Kerry Collins went 13-3 in 2008)

2016--Matt Moore was 2-1,Drew Stanton 1-0,Shaun Hill 1-0,Paxton Lynch 1-1,Landry Jones 1-1,Tom Savage 1-1,Case Keenum was 4-5

2015--Matt Hasselbeck 5-3,Josh Freeman 1-0,T.J. Yates 2-0,Brandon Weeden 1-0,Mike Vick 2-1,Landry Jones 1-1,Brock Osweiler was 5-2

Silly stats.

If you want to play that game, in 2016 Matt Cassel, 1-0.
