terradawg
I really, really hate this play. We all know that this team lives and dies with Mariota. The entire design of the play is to draw the defense to Mariota and then he dumps it to Jackson in space. The play is begging for Mariota to take a big hit. Fortunately it was Pac Man and he somehow got a concussion on Mariota's svelt hip, but that play is wholly unnecessary. We're risking the health of our franchise for a 10-15 yard play. Some of the Mularkey gadget plays drive me insane, but none more so than this one due to the injury risk.
TitanLegend
Marcus takes hits much worse than that in the pocket. I never have and never will understand this mindset of "we can't run Marcus cause he might get hit" when he gets hit in the pocket, even with good protection, 5-10 times a game. In the open field it's mostly DBs/LBs that are gonna be hitting him rather than the 6'6 310 pound defensive linemen that hit him in the pocket. If he's going to get hurt consistently on routine plays then he's not gonna last in the league regardless.
terradawg
Y’all are nuts. He leaves his body wide open on purpose. It’s like leaving a guy unblocked on a blitz. But that’s just like, my opinion maaaaan...

big2033
Why can't we do with our 4.5 QB, what the Eagles, Seahawks and Chiefs are doing with theirs? Help me out here @terradawg.
Rogue
We're no longer in protect Marcus at all costs mode, we're in a dog fight for the division. We have a young, talented team, but little great talent in their prime. We've got to play to whatever strengths we have.
Stan
Mariota took only one unnecessary hit on the option throw. I’ll be the first to blame Mularkey but Mariota tried body slamming the guy on the interception and then he didn’t slide on the last drive. You guys haven’t watched Brady take hits at 40? The guy takes hits harder than Mariota did today

I guess they think he's playing some sport other than football, I'm not sure really.
nine
Marcus is responsible for his own protection any time the ball is in his hands. He's generally very good at it and largely avoids contact unless he's reaching for the goal line...but football is a game of violent collisions and big hits are going to happen from time to time. On the play in question, the longer the QB keeps the ball, the greater the play's chances of success....but it also increases his chances of taking a big hit. The play design calls for the QB to keep the ball until the very last second...but ultimately, you'd like to see Marcus get rid of the ball just a hair earlier than he did, just for sheer self-preservation. If you'll watch the play, Marcus allows Pacman a good 2-3 steps to build momentum before pitching the ball, and Pacman hits him with a full head of steam. In the future, I'd like to see that ball come out as soon as the corner commits, but before he's built any momentum...thus keeping the impact to a minimum. http://www.nfl.com/m/share?p=%2Fvideos%2Fnfl-game-highlights%2F0ap3000000875575%2FAdoree-Jackson-motors-down-the-sideline-for-13-yards-off-the-pitch

japan
That shot he took from Pacman was pretty scary. Right to the hip. I didn’t think much of it while at the game, but watching the replay it was very surprising he wasn’t at least dinged off the hit. I dont have a problem with the hit either. If you are going to run a play like that then the QB better be ready to get hit.
Bongo59
Nope. He was turning away from it. One thing Mariota is aware of is hits he takes. He has improved this a lot. He also slides way early now so he got the message.
Bongo59
He needs to run early and often when you play a team who has never faced him. You see his speed on film but I am telling you all it is huge when you see it live on the field. I mentioned in the gameplan thread how to play Cincy was more spread and early runs of Marcus and that is EXACTLY what TN did. I expect almost the same game plan Thursday. TN is so multiple that it will effect the aggression of Pitt's DL. Pitt will shut down the inside runs but TN needs to get Marcus on the edge at least 4 times Thursday to beat Pitt.
