Cian Fahey on Marcus Mariota(Ranks him 7th best QB in NFL)

What people forget is the offense also helps the defense. If you control the clock, run the ball and mix in play action you keep the defense off the field.

Its not about making Maroita the best FF QB, it's about contending for SBs

Considering the goal of last year was to protect Mariota because he got destroyed his rookis season, seems counter-productive to have us in 4-5 wide all the time. Teams would just pin their ears back and tee off. You're also devaluing Murray and Henry.

I do think we will see more 3 WR and some 4 WR this year, less 2 TE. But we're still going to commit to running. That's been what Mularkey's done at every stop he's been at. The guy is a former TE who coached with the Ravens and Steelers his early years. He's going to want to play some power football.

I'm not saying all the time.  I'm saying once in a while to change things up.  And by doing so you give Mariota a chance to utilize his quick decision making ability by giving him more options.

I'm not asking for a New Orleans Saints/Detroit Lions early 2010's style of throwing it every down.  I think balance is important.  To a point.

Although I feel you're saying it in jest, that last remark is a bit exaggerated of what seems to be the opinion around here.

I just want Mariota to be the greatest utilized.  Sometimes, it doesn't seem the system currently being run is optimal.  Other times, it looks great.

Exactly, this is another main item I meant to bring up. People become so enamored with stats & passing numbers that they forget how much more there is to offense. One trend that has never changed is how devastating turnovers are, almost without fail the best teams have good turnover ratios.

Even overall points scored doesn't necessarily tell you what the best offense is. Controlling the clock & not turning it over really help the defense. I remember in 2014, when Dallas put together that monster OL & Murray had the huge year, they gave up like 70 less points on defense but I read that on a play by play basis the defense was just as awful as the year before, they were just on the field less. And Romo's passer rating was 10 points higher than it ever was.

The bottom line is we have more than enough talent at QB, OL, and the skill positions to have a great, balanced offense, similar to that 2014 Dallas offense. They were probably 4th or 5th in scoring but might've been the most effective overall.

Before the final 4 games or so the Titans offense was among the highest scoring and also in the top 4 in big plays.......

They can run this playaction scheme and still have a lot of points and big plays

Low %, slow developing, deep passes are more prone to turnovers...

marcus has an incredible interception rates and also pretty much showed last year he only fumbles on the run.

NE runs a lot more under center plays than people think. And they actually ran the ball a lot last year.

Mariota's best traits are his quick release, short to medium accuracy and, probably most important of all, the ability to make quick decisions.  That's what the NE system relies on.  There are very few QB's with traits where you can run an offense like that.  I believe that Mariota is one of them.

He ranks Rodgers, Newton(yes, Newton), Brady, Luck, Wilson, Brees ahead.

That's still some elite company.
