It's been an up and down year, but we have quite a few bright spots through 8 games. Mariota and the offense looked fantastic against the Jags, but the schedule ramps up with a road trip to San Diego on deck. I didn't feel convicted enough to go against the weekend theme, but I certainly don't think it's out of the realm of possibility for the Titans to pull off the win. You're in just about all games if your defense holds up and you can win those games if you pay mistake free... but the flip side mistakes are magnified and you can lose just about any game, especially given our WR group is so limited. Defensive teams can count on many opportunities to score, while offensive teams have to score on every possession and avoid turnovers. How many shootouts has Drew Brees list? And we discussed their penchant for blowing games. But, sure, they're the most dominant team ever. It's always all or nothing with Soxcat, though his all tends to amount to nothing. pat Posted November 3, 2016 Report Share Posted November 3, 2016 A better defense gives the offense more opportunities to score. If the offense is great it will be a blowout. If the offense is mediocre there will be more chances to get points. Conversely, the best thing a good offense can do is score and give the ball back. It's not just Drew Brees, nearly every elite quarterback has had a "last team with the ball wins" type of game. If you want an explosive aggressive offense, then you definitely want a strong defense to cover when those riskier plays occasionally fail. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I think the Lions are better and we beat them on the road. This will be a tough game, but this is also a 3-5 team. They're not THAT good. If we lose, I won't be surprised. But I think we have a pretty decent shot at winning this one. Certainly, going to the west coast has not been kind. Hopefully the few extra days will help. The Chargers QB is better and we have been concerned all season about how the defense is going to hold up against an elite QB. This is our first test. The Lions had us down by multiple scores until they suffered their fourth or fifth in-game injury and had STers on the field when wet mounted a comeback... that even then required perfection from Marcus. The Raiders also had us down by multiple scores late and that game was by far our worst offensive performance of the year and we wasted a stellar defensive performance. I'd actually take the Chargers over the Raiders in a head to head but it's not a strong preference. Either way the Chargers are far from unbeatable, but it'll take a better game than we had against either of those other two. Potentially a far better game.
