So you'd drop that production instead of holding onto him until a better option comes around?

Actually yes.  You don't sign a place holder to continue to be mediocre.  You of all people should know that as you've long been someone against keeping mediocre players to win a couple of extra games.

If I'm the Bills I'd certainly play Taylor but he hasn't shown enough to earn a contract.  And if he struggles give Jones a chance or tank and get a top end QB.

If this 2 year deal works out it'd be good, but there are usually FA QBs that you can rent. Otherwise you'd like to see more production before tying yourself to a 5 or so year contract.

So, 3000 yards with 20 TDs and 6 INTs off a 63% completion percentage is mediocre for a first year starter?

Did you watch the Bills at all?  He's not throwing the ball like you need to to succeed long term.  The Titans game was a perfect example.

Yes, I did watch. And who says we're talking long term? I said until there's a better option...

Fine.  I have no issues with starting him.  But I'd never give him a long-term deal until he proves he can operate successfully from the pocket.

You never give a QB a big contract based on one year of production. Scott Mitchell anyone? The Bills would be smart to play things like the Skins are doing with Cousins. Of course the flip side is Flacco so it's not an exact science.

Again and again and again.... Another NFL franchise that missed out,  long term, and got lucky with a fun replacement in the meantime with Taylor. Fitzpatrick should've stayed put and built around since his arrival. The defense has already been in place for several years now and offensive pieces slowly coming together. In this generation NFL quarterback, just like a fine wine, with age comes more Pro Bowl seasons accompanied by great locker room leadership. The Jets just had to pay the price for exactly that in order to compete again.

Fitzpatrick would have been perfect for the Bills actually.  When he was there the defense was terrible.  Now it's been built up to at least a fairly respectable level.  The talent around the QB has also improved.

I've always said that with the right people Fitzpatrick can win.  I've thought that the guy was heavily underrated for years.  Houston should have kept him.

Neither Taylor or Fitzpatrick is a QB you build around long term

Of course not.  But I do think that you can win with the right pieces with Fitzpatrick.  Taylor's too much of a gimmick guy.

He did running a gimmick style passing game. This never lasts. He hasn't proven he can be a drop back passer and until that happens you are still looking for a QB

I just saw this. Gimmick passing game? It was a regular NFL offense. I watched them play a few games & there was nothing at all gimmicky about them.
