Not much substance to add, not like I can dig up facts for Dalton's future career, just a judgement based on my observations while watching him play.  This is all opinion and speculation after all.  I could also be completely wrong about Dalton, it has been known to happen before it's not like I am Oilerman here making these predictions.

I wouldn't say I have no hope for Locker, there is always hope, I would say I don't have a lot of confidence that he will either play at a high level all season or not get injured.  My guess is that the team will be looking for a new starting QB next offseason.

Right, so specifically what observations have you seen while watching Dalton play that tell you he doesn't have the ability to get better?

How about a poll on whether you would give Dalton a Jay Cutler/Matt Stafford/Joe Flacco level 2nd contract? I think that's the concern for most people over whether he is better than Locker. Certainly it is for me.

I fail to see why there'd be any hesitation... and I'm hard on Dalton. Biggest drawback is Dalton isn't elite and might prevent the team from drafting another guy. His known is an instant improvement over the unknown of Locker.

Imagine in 2011 we picked Dalton instead of Locker. I think by now circumstances would be very different here. For instance on last years team there is no doubt Dalton would've led the 2013 Titans to the playoffs. Fitzpatrick had at least three or four critical game changing fourth quarter turnovers that could've turned this 7-9 team into at least 9-7 or 10-6. We all know Tennessee had all tiebreakers and would've made the playoffs at 9-7 last year. Dalton would've been a good pick for Tennessee.

Jesus, of course you would make this trade.

Pretend Webster called the Bengals and made this offer before the draft. I can only assume the Bengals would think it was a prank caller.

That's an understatement. These same posters voting for Locker right now would be saying Dalton is already better than Brees.

This used to drive me nuts, the narrative from all the announcers & analysts of how Brady & Manning have average arms but were just so superior at reading defenses. It was total bullshit, they had cannons. Of course they were great at reading defenses but sometimes I wondered if these announcers ever watched these guys play, they threw laser beams.

I also get sick & tired of reading how unimportant arm strength is. Thats another one of those old adages that simply aren't true, like "wearing a defense out with the running game". The truth is just about every great QB who ever played the game had a big time arm, because if you don't there's a limit to what you can do on offense. The defense will just smother & constrict you if there's no threat of a big downfield throw. It's also the difference in completions & picks if the ball takes too long to get to the receiver. Arm strength is very important.

I never thought that Manning's arm was the strongest. It was certainly good enough, but as far as strength it was not on the level of Brady or many other QB's that he's faced in his career. Manning's so good because he's probably the best QB of all time at reading defenses and his ultra quick release.
