IsntLifeFunny
If your contention is that sometimes a mistake can lead to a goal, bravo. Otherwise, there are zero similarities the point you were failing to make and our game against Portugal. Hell, we didn't even lose. You truly are the biggest douche bag I've come across on the internet. The point was simple, and it stands on its own. Teams can dominate and still draw or tie in soccer. It happens all of the time. It happened last night. Simple.
Jamalisms
In no other major sport in North America is winning so unrelated to superior play and more random results than soccer because of the incredibly low scoring nature of it. This is ILF's point of course and it's true. Spoken like someone who would describe himself as knowing nothing about the sport. The dumb defending the deaf. IsntLifeFunny
Spoken like someone who would describe himself as knowing nothing about the support. The dumb defending the deaf. You could use a support group. I'm not sure if there is a cure for your condition, but we can still hope.

CharrdWood
http://billmoyers.com/2014/06/18/a-world-cup-for-the-wealthy-not-for-the-people/ A World Cup for the Wealthy, Not the People Here in polyglot New York, pop into any bar, restaurant or even dry cleaner and chances are there’s a TV set tuned to the World Cup. And Monday’s surprise United States victory over rival Ghana — the cheers when the US scored the winning goal rocked my neighborhood — has increased attention even more. The fever has taken hold in our city as it has around the planet, with hundreds of millions watching the soccer — football — action from Brazil, this year’s host country. When it comes to income inequality, Brazil is in the bottom ten percent, ranking 121st out of 133 countries, and the South American nation holds a similar low standing when it comes to corruption, wealth distribution and quality of infrastructure. So as the World Cup has begun, demonstrations and strikes have continued. When has FIFA ever given a shit about economies, social pathologies, or even basic human decency?! It's one of the most corrupt and venal quasi-government organizations ever shat forth. It has been ever thus, it's just that now more Americans are paying attention. Perhaps that will be a good thing when it comes to FIFA, but I doubt it. World Cup in Dubai?!?!?! Oh, and, no surprise that a liberal elitist like Moyers would find the other liberal angle to cover the World Cup. Who gives a fucking monkey's toss what he has to say about anything?! I guarantee that his only interest in the World Cup is because it's now mandatory cocktail party chatter. If Brasil weren't hosting the World Cup they'd still have all the problems they have...same as any other country...politics don't belong in sport. But FIFA needs to be smashed. OILERMAN
I just saw the show and thought I'd throw it in this thread As for Moyers, I love what he has to say most of the time
CharrdWood
Lastly, the "best player in the world" has been Portugal's MO, and he's looked rather pedestrian. Honestly, Portugal got the goal on that cross by CR7 had Beasley 1 v 1 and crossed it instead of taking him on 1 v 1- wtf? Okay, okay...I can't stand Cristiano--and probably loathe him far more than any of you--but how can you knock him for plating a cross on a dime for a World Cup elimination game equalizer?! That's just churlish. The guy is a tremendously talented footballer. *AND* he's been injured since before the beginning of the tournament. I can't stand the twat but there is absolutely no argument for criticising him in this World Cup. He's injured and playing with a bunch of jokers. CharrdWood
In no other major sport in North America is winning so unrelated to superior play and more random results than soccer because of the incredibly low scoring nature of it. This is ILF's point of course and it's true. There is also a talent gap that exists between Portugal and Ghana that discredits anyone that argues they have little chance unless they are playing at their best. These are just some of the many reasons Jamal's assured opinion was false and unintelligent. I'm going to agree with your first point, but disagree with your second. Ghana have some tremendously talented individuals. I'd put their collective ability ahead of that of Portugal. They just can't seem to harness it altogether to get the results they need, which is a common weakness of African teams, for whatever reasons. Reasons in which, btw, I'm not necessarily interested. Ghana probably should have gotten a draw against the US, and probably should have beaten Germany. Beating Portugal is very much on the table.

CharrdWood
I think the US has to go into this match thinking that they want and need 3 points. They need to have that aggression--albeit controlled aggression--if they want to get anything from this match. Approach Germany as lambs to the slaughter--or, at least, avoiding the worst of it---will see the US eviscerated. Germany haven't even started to click...which, let's face it, we all know is gonna happen. I'll be more impressed by a tactically/technically sound draw (goals or otherwise) than I will by a swashbuckling win for the ages. Not that I wouldn't enjoy it in the moment, mind... Guest
I'm going to make another random prediction because I am addicted to the feeling of winning. In spite of Jamal's assured continued insistence that Portugal needs a "dramatic change of form" to contend with the Ghana side, I'm just going to tell you all right now that, no matter which Portugal team shows up next game, wait for it...... IT'S GOING TO BE A CLOSE GAME. I'm even going to give you the score....it's one of 0-0, 1-0, 2-0, 1-1 or 2-1 It could go either way!
Guest
Here's another one. I saw on the Nightly News with Brian Williams yesterday that the US is up next against traditional soccer powerhouse Germany. On paper this would seem like the US has little chance and may be an uncompetitive match...but wait....spider senses tingling... IT'S GOING TO BE ANOTHER CLOSE GAME. 0-0, 1-0, 2-1, 1-1, 2-0. Guest
The Leafs can be dominated for 59 minutes and then Phil Kessel can go on an end to end riush and put in the winning goal. It happens all the time. Well only when the Leafs win which is about half the time. Phil Kessel is a game breaker. Christian Ronaldo is a game breaker. When the ball is on his foot, it doesn't matter how good or bad Portugal is playing, things can change rapidly. Maybe it;s my hockey background that puts me so ahead of guys like Jamal in this conversation?
