According to Jim Wyatt, negotiations are moving in a positive direction:

  • Now for Johnson's contract news, and it's better. Sources say there has been positive movement for the 1st time between #Titans and Johnson
  • Negotiations between the two sides has picked up and progress is being made toward a new deal for Johnson and the #Titans, sources say
  • After a long holdout, for the first time there is reason to be optimistic a deal could be worked out #titans #chrisjohnson

This stuff always makes me laugh.

It's not like they are negotiating how to build an international space station or something involving a large number of variables. It's a pretty simple negotiation.

I'd love to hear specifically what "progress" has been made.

Actually, Ive negotiated how to build several international space stations. Easy as pie.

From Roto:

The Nashville Tennessean reports that contract talks between the Titans and Chris Johnson have "picked up," and there is "reason to be optimistic" a deal will be worked out before Week 1.

Citing multiple sources, beat writer Jim Wyatt reports there has been "positive movement" for the first time in negotiations after a nearly month-long training camp holdout. Credit NFL Network's Mike Lombardi for predicting this late Tuesday. The Titans feel a sense of urgency with the season opener just 12 days away, and are believed to be making "very aggressive" overtures. At this point, we'd be surprised if Johnson didn't play in Week 1.

Thanks

I think Cyrus and TitansGuru are the best posters on this board

I do get pretty mad at the CJ haters lol

Other than that, I'm totally laid back

The kid is an extremely special talent

Normally, I WOULD be opposed to giving a RB an extension, but a special talent like CJ supersedes that

I just can't comprehend someone who is completely unappreciative of what CJ has

Then again, a large part of the fanbase didn't even appreciate McNair until he left...sad

It's unbelivable man. This kid is one of a kind rb. This talent doesn't come around a lot and he wants money, the kid is making a mil this year while back ups are making more. He deserves the money

Ultimately it comes down to this: the Titans can easily squeeze another $3M out of their salary cap each year for the next three years. This year it will be Gage ($3.5). Next year it will be Witherspoon. ($3.5) And after that it could be Nate Washington ($4.2).

All of those numbers easily allow for the Titans to make up the difference between the reported $8M and the $10.5-11.5M they'll compromise on.

Damn straight

And like I said earlier, I'm normally opposed to giving RB big money

I feel the same way about WR and CB...I just think there are better ways to allocate cap space...

But when you've got someone special (CJ, AP, Andre Johnson, Fitzgerald, Revis, etc) you keep em

Have you read this article?

You should

Shows you just how good this kid is
