Huh. Didn't even realize I wrote this back in February but...

...

Round Four - 106th Overall+ Compensatory : C/G Brian Schwenke - Cal

Short-limbed but physical and tough Schwenke is a likely center in the NFL. Possesses the ability to redirect and anchor in pass pro and is an ideal zone run blocker given his coordination in space. He's not likely to knock anyone off the line but has the strength to maintain the integrity of the zone game. Schwenke could potentially be an early starter and would allow Fernando Velasco to move to right guard.

I knew the move was coming eventually but I have to wonder if some of those funky shotgun snaps in the Seahawks game tipped the scales. It will also be interesting to see if this move positively affects the run game. The 49ers are 20th in run defense but that didn't help us when we played the Chargers.

Good. Glad they didn't wait any longer. Now they just need the whole OL to play up to their level of pay/draft position and maybe we can get an actual NFL run game. Also, get well soon Greene.

Titansreport on Titans Center position:

Mawae sucks, anyone would be better

Amano sucks, anyone would be better

Velasco sucks, anyone would be better

Turner sucks, anyone would be better

Shwenke ?????

Lets hope this is the one that breaks the pattern!

We should have kept Velasco.

Just got back to computer from work and saw this.  Best news of the day, maybe just slightly behind the Senate deal.

Not expecting an All-World performance, but:

* Turner's play has absolutely been hurting the team.  He cannot be seen as a long-term answer.

* Schwenke will certainly have his fair share of rookie WTFs, but at least now he can be evaluated for the potential to be that long-term starter, while hopefully improving game by game with experience.  Regardless if the line play drops off even further, going from bad to worse for both the Oline specifically and the offense overall doesn't really matter right now based on the past couple weeks: it's like drowning under 2 feet or 2 yards of water. (Now I think of it, Dead in the Water does describe last week's O pretty well.)

I really liked him as a draft pick.  Smart guy, likeable guy.  Could be a fan fav down the road if he does well.  Crossing fingers.
