Discussion about the board

You want something "truly" in depth enough to read, take the time and write it. Absent that, stfu.

Stop and just think about this for a moment. Think about what you've expressed (ugh, those people are going to post?) and what I've expressed (if you don't like it, fine, but why attack people?).

Then, in all seriousness, chill and take your own advice.

This is actually much the point and it always amazes how high a percent of people take turns needing to do it, myself included.

Guru is being tactful but he's essentially saying that unabated negativity for the sake of negativity is standing in the way of what he wants to do with the website... not even on all posts but towards original content and new individuals specifically. As someone who has in the past expressed an opinion that jerks need to go, (CTF in your complaint), and as someone who enjoys Guru's work it would seem a small and understandable appeal to your better nature... even if your comments aren't as negative as those you objected to.

Two final points... It was late and I was tired, but I did think that you would take something to heart and not retort... and a single piece of original content can drive tens of thousands of hits by itself, (and that was some of my early "articles"), which says nothing about the potential for return visits or new forum lurkers/members. The forum by itself grows slowly... so, yes, original content plays a huge role and there is a reason endeavors are being made in that area.

... and I also think that the fact that he's expressing an opinion about it over the past few weeks, when he's never done it before, should say something about something if you stop and consider it.

... and all of that is even beyond the fact that not all content need be opinion and editorial and breaking new ground. Descriptive and summative is actually good content.

There's just so much of this that really feels like it should go without saying of you took a step back and considered what is being said.

Asking me why attack people a few hours after you basically tell me to shut the fuck up?  Common sense fail.  ....Do I even really need to add to this?

But, for CMJ's sake, I will.

You honestly just posted an extremely hypocritical, smarmy diatribe that essentially says "you can only critique our content if you have nice things to say."  Seriously.  I'm not a fan of the two people who are soon to be posting articles here.  Big fucking deal.  I don't speak for all of Titans Report, and you can't certainly win them all.  Should I keep my mouth shut about my lack of fondness for them?  Maybe, but that's a completely retarded standard to set here....where, you know, we bitch about any and pretty much everything on a regular basis.  Much like you pushing the "content" agenda in your responses, I'm pushing the "preference" agenda in letting forum posters have a little bit better idea of what they can expect from these upcoming contributors.  Everyone here knows I'm a vulgar, hotheaded, stubborn piece of shit, and as such, their expectations of my personal opinions should be skewed as such.

What I don't get, nor will I tolerate, is you and Guru admonishing me for posting my goddamn opinion on something.  I've fully supported your podcasts and articles over the years, even giving you tips on how to improve them and make them more engaging.  Shit, I even criticized the McClain episode as I felt it was a tad boring, and he went on longwinded tangents.  Heaven fucking forbid I knock two people who have less than 10 posts between them here.  What I also think is bullshit is crawling in the mud with me then immediately trying to take some higher ground by posting crap like "now feel free to get the last word in."  That's seriously some passive-aggressive teenage girl shit.

You say I should take my own advice...well, maybe you should take yours.  If you don't like what I have to post, then don't read it.  Certainly don't respond to it.

If this podcast doesn't include at least one person calling crossfit gay, I'll be severely disappointed.

Hey reo, I've been meaning to ask.  What's this "crossfit?"  Could you please explain it, in detail, and list a comprehensive list of workout routines and its positive aspects.    :D

As critical as some on this board can be, I honestly think it's fine preparation for any journalism graduates or budding sports writers who are looking to build a resume. I totally get the idea of being kind and considerate to people who are first getting started (heck, that's how I feel about it), but the reality is that it's a tough gig.

Any career that is founded on your creativity, written, drawn or otherwise, is immensely personal and at times an issue of sensitivity. You need to be willing to bare yourself though and take the criticism because it's going to happen. Not everyone is going to like your work and sometimes, it really isn't good enough. If they can't take it here then good luck taking the criticism of someone who is cutting you a check. Better yet, good luck going out on your own and seeing the expectations of the internet at large and how unwilling they can be to even hand over a single dollar.

So to everyone who's thinking about contributing, or is contributing, stick with it. It's brutal to take people's criticism when you put your heart into your work. And if you're taking flak over work you "mailed in" - then you deserve every bit of criticism because you should expect more from yourself.

If you find yourself being personally offended then good- I'd like to formally introduce you to your early career.

DW has had plenty of snaps over the past couple seasons w/ all the injuries. I think he could be good w/ the right QB and offense but he'll never be a true threat that draws double coverage or anything imo.

I do not know this Sharona character so I will not comment to her but as for Jason I will. Merc is 100% spot on in his comments. Hell he even got a negative response from Soxcat about his content and that is hard to do when the content is about the Titans.

What Merc, myself, and Soxcat have a problem with is the content. If you are going to write an article here it needs more info than his have had so far. That shit is good for casual fans like @CMJ but not for the rest of us. Basically don't post stuff that insults our intelligence by being something that we already know and is a fluff piece. I have nothing against Jason nor any ill will to speak of and welcome more content. He just needs to understand his audience better and write something with more depth instead of writing boring and uninformative articles like most of Jamal's are.

oh you hadn't yet but if this thread turned into another one, i'm sure you would've :D

All I did was provide one of the mods a thread to compile all that crap to. I didn't ask them to do so but he got the point and did so promptly.

In regards to writing, i haven't really read many of the articles. I've skimmed through a couple of Jason's. I've checked some of Sharona's tweets but that's about it. Welcome to both.

Jason's tend to read like... well... a titansradio or titansonline article or even most of Kuharsky's which is to say they're generally mostly recaps of what I'd consider conventional knowledge around here. They might combine some practice pressers w/ some stats, etc to say a basic point. And that isn't really a bad thing. It just depends on your target audience and what you're trying to say.

From what I've seen when it comes to sports articles there are generally a few different types.

There are your recaps that you usually get off titansonline or titansradio. Good for your general fan. Good singular points but not much depth really. it doesn't really do much for us around here.

There are your stat articles like from PFF or Jamal. They can be good and helpful and a lot of times very indepth but there's rarely much of a hypothesis  formed beyond the stats. The basic conclusions can be pretty bland and w/o context. A lot of times they don't seem to really have a point as much as a "here are the stats". Do w/ them as you will-type of articles.

There are you fluff pieces that you'll get off titansonline. This can be interesting b/c out of all types they're most likely to have interesting insider nuggets that most fans don't know but they're fluff pieces so you can't read too much into them.

Then you've got articles from guys like Cyrus and Superhorn where they get into actual route combinations and playbook specifics and even player analysis. Personally these are my favorite. If there's a problem, maybe it's occasionally not looking big picture enough? Focusing too much on single plays? Hard to say since like these.

So imo if you really want a niche, combine all the styles. Use the titansradio style in that you have a basic point that you want to get across. Then go into the playbook and film study to prove the point w/ play breakdowns. Back it up w/ stats and then add in interesting insider nuggets that not everyone knows.

But that's very hard to do. Takes a lot of time and probably can't easily be done on a week to week basis.
