Alcibiades Posted July 22, 2013 Author Report Share Posted July 22, 2013 Yeah, I think Pollard will start, but I don't think the difference between him and Wilson is as huge as you seem to be suggesting. Both are on one year contracts, so I'm not sure age will matter much. Training camp will be big here, but I think Pollard gets the nod. Wilson is a pretty good tackler, which our safeties could really use! Pollard can do it too, and is almost certainly better in coverage. But he's not a stud at it or anything. We really need Griffin to be able to focus on coverage. He cheated on the run too much and got burned. He bites on playaction big time. Always has. Maybe if the rest of our defense could get better at stopping the run, he wouldn't do that so much. But it may just be an instincts issue. Griffin is so frustrating.... He's been a constant disappointment since playing so brilliantly in 2008, and if he doesn't at least come close to duplicating that performance he'll be one of their first cuts in 2014. He doesn't even cover well, he gives up a lot. Wilson couldn't be worse, and you put Pollard at SS. Forget about Griffin altogether. Because of his contract I guess. Not sure what his deal is, but hopefully with better leadership in the secondary, and maybe Gray getting to spend a little more time with the DBs this guy can find some consistancy. He went from 4 ints in 2011 to zero last season. He could well be at the point in his career where he is dropping like a rock like Hope did. I hope not and hope he can give us solid support in some packages. But the possibility exists that he isn't much more than Babs. I don't know about his performance rankings, but from everything I've read about Wilson he's almost as big of a liability in coverage as Pollard. Neither of our SS's are good cover guys. He has been abused his whole career. Don't get me started on the Titans signing both guys. It was pretty shitty to sign Wilson as a starter and then supplant him with Pollard a few weeks later. I like his attitude and hard hitting which we obviously need but we have seen way to many guys running wide open in the middle of our defense in past seasons and an occasionaly hard hit isn't all we need for sure. The only thing guys over the middle have had to worry about is getting a swift breeze as Griffin dives past them. Hopefully, Pollard changes that.
